Sparkling Palate. Not sure if it does it for me. Not sure if it does not. Light coffee flavor. Heavy and filthy taste. I feel a little dirty drinking this. A little wild. Did I just break the law?! Slight fruit notes. Did someone shave apple or pear bits in my glass?! Am I dreaming?! I feel as if I am on a sinking ship heading towards the bottom of a shallow giant and dirty lake. Well done Edmund. The finish is cold and distant. I’m shocked. Would I ever be so bold as to submerge myself in this wreck ever again? LIKELY.

Pours black with a big foamy head. Roasted malt, sugary cream and toffee aroma. Dark roasted malt flavor witb some burnt character. Dark roast. Draws down soapy. Lots of bite. A robust porter.

Bottle: Deep brown, almost black with some translucency only at the edges. Light-tan head mellows out thinly & spans across the top of the brew; moderate lacing left behind. Aroma of roasted malts & light chocolates with an underbelly of creamy smoothness & a hint of bitterness biting softly towards the back-end. Flavor opens up a bit more with added complexity; roasted malt, burnt campfire wood, roasted nuts, coffee beans, & mildly charred grains. The finish exhibits a very slight floral & earthy hop bite, ending with a bittersweet chocolate malt flavor that lingers for a while. Moderately creamy body, perhaps a tad thin. Very nice porter.

This is a great porter. The nose is roasty and chocolate with a piney hop presence. The taste is really well balanced with hops coming in at the end. Great stuff. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle. Dark brown with a frothy beige head. Flavors are raisins, chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, caramel and molasses with herbal and cola notes. Light to medium body, soft carbonation, thin texture.

This beer is the bomb. A very dark pour with a small tan head. Aroma is dark roast. A bit thick in mouth feel, but not cloying with good carbonation. Flavor is perfectly balanced with dark roasted chocolate and coffee notes, a good hop bit and nice alcohol burn.

On tap poured into a shaker. This has a nice, warm nutty, warm caramel aroma with a coffee and cacao note that gets stronger near the end of the drink. It’s a dark, viscous looking brown-black with a tan, creamy head, lots of messy lace, and a retained, thin fluffy ring with a dusty surface. The taste is a medium / medium light coffee bitter with a medium syrupy, malty sweet. The oily texture has a light, soft, nearly flat carbonation. The medium full malty body has lots of coffee and caramel notes with creamy lactose finish. There’s also tones of nuts and grass with a light, mellow, but lingering, coffee ground aftertaste.

Bottle. Been looking forward to trying this one for awhile. Pours cola brown with khaki head. Aroma: milk chocolate; deep roast, bordering smoky/spicy. Caramel atop dark fruit. Taste: moderately sweet; stale hops (months before "best by" date); lots of chocolate with a moderately bitter roast finish. Lasting honeyed sweetness. Medium body, chalky texture. Overall: probably biased because of its place in my beer drinking journey, but I prefer black butte.
