COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep Amber red color, with a fragrant malt aroma. Flavorful notes of rich caramelized malt and noble hop flavors harmonize on the palate leading to a crisp clean finish. Named after one of Cleveland’s most respected safety directors, who frequented the brewpub’s bar during his tenure from 1935-1941 and, according to popular legend, was responsible for the bullet holes still evident today.

Truly delicious beer; enjoyed a bottle (poured into a glass) for dessert at Quartino in Chicago. It’s a style I usually don’t appreciate, but this was enjoyable start to finish and gave me a new appreciation for it. Sweet maltiness gives great flavor and is understated but rich; it’s really smooth in the mouth.

Bottle at home. Light alcohol phenols on the nose, along with buttery caramel malts. Medium bodied, sweet underneath, clean bready malts, dry finish with a twang of turpentine and pineapple. Seriously.

Tap @ source. Copper color with oatmeal head and nice lacing. Smells lightly wheaty and citric with a hint of fruit. A little sweeter than I usually like.

On tap at Jet Rock at PHL (after a connecting flight...I admit that all beers I have ever rated seem to get an extra +0.2 just for the fact that Jet Rock is the best non-tied-house craft beer bar in an airport). Also, the actual beer ratings by me are pretty lame. Clear amber with solid off-white head that is relatively sustained. Malt bomb all around. Rich, and nutty.

12oz bottle. Pours amber with an off-white head. Nice head retention. Moderate carbonation. Aroma is of caramel, bread, malt, and grass. Smells good. Taste is of caramel, grassy hops, and toffee. Has a bready malt backbone. Lingering grassy hop taste. Mouthfeel is light, and slightly creamy. Body is moderately carbonated, and slightly sticky. Tastes good, and it drinks real easy. I could definitely drink a few of these.

Tap pour at Butcher and the Boar. Bumped pint glass. Amber color... obviously with good lacing but minor unassuming head. Aroma is mostly malty and bready. Mouthfeel is thin syrupy and a little oily. Taste feels very much like a standard amber or Vienna lager. Malty with some roasted notes. Mostly sweetness with caramel and subtle toffee notes. Some bitterness at the end. Pretty decent for the style. This one feels pretty touchable.

12oz bottle pours a dark clear Amber, with a small khaki head. Aroma of fruity hops, grains, with sweet caramel and toffee malts. Sweet malt flavors, caramel and toffee, with slightly bitter grassy and fruity hops, and beery lager yeast on the finish. Nice for the style.

Bottle. Pours crystal clear amber with very little head. Nose is caramel, cherry and grain. Taste is caramel and grain. Bitterness comes through in the aftertaste. Good.
