650 mL bottle. Hazy orange with some sediment and very little head. Wheat, lemon and cider in the nose - sour, but quite appealing. The flavour is quite complex, with the barrel effects coming in the middle (!) rather than up front or in the finish. Up front is the wheat and lemon, then the cider, then the more traditional saison flavours. Really, really interesting.

(2014 version, 650mL bottle from LCBO and on tap at Bryden’s, June 18 2014) Pours a hazed medium gold, frothy lingering white head with lace. The nose has a sharp, lightly sour cider character with a little woodiness, lightly sweet with saison yeast giving some fruity esters, lightly herbal/spicy. Flavour has the same components, at first a combination of lightly tart apple from the cider with a bit of sweet pale malt, a bit woodier later in the sip with more yeast character, bit peppery as well. A little sweet/tart on the finish as well, slightly dusty yeast, very light herbal bitterness. Light to medium body, moderate carb, feels like a farmhouse. Cider character comes through well and the farmhouse base is a good fit. The acidity from the cider makes it particularly quenching, but it is an interesting beer for most, and for a cider fan in particular. Even my mother, who likes cider but only sour beers, enjoyed this one. I thought the barrel character was a little brighter on tap than bottle, but fruity banana esters were also a bit higher, so the balance was similar.

Bottle from LCBO. Pours clear gold with a thick white head. Aroma of funky yeast, cooked apples, and a touch of spice. Tasty. Spicy, yeasty, sweet apple, with a dry finish. Nice.

Pours a golden colour with a lively white head. Aroma has heavy with notes of apple, yeast, floral, and sour fruit. Tasting notes include a huge initial cider attack on the palate, and then the peppery saison yeast begins to creep in. Overall the palate is warm, and soothing. This is a complex beer that brings cider and saison together, and it works!

Bomber from LCBO. Light orange with an off white head that mostly fades. A nice light apple cider presence with some oak, bit of booze, fruited body, moderate carbonation, light pepper, some tartness but mild. Interesting for sure.

On tap at a takeover in Newmarket. Pours a hazy yellow colour with a very woodsy and yeasty aroma. I get some cider notes and spicyness as well. On the palate it is soured, tart, peppery and yeasty with a hint of lemon on the finish. Very tasty stuff.

650 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a lightly cloudy golden orange with average-sized white head and some steady bubbles. Aroma is tart apple, some earthy funk, wood and spice. Flavour is tart green apple, funk, barrel and a modest spiciness - the cider character really comes through. Qute nice. The cider barrel and the farmhouse ale are a really interesting combo.

Bottle from LCBO. Great tart horseblanket aroma with some apple notes. The two notes go great together. Looks great too, long lasting white thick head with a hazy golden effervescent body. Quite delicious tasting, funky flavors and sweet malt upfront, finishes with earthy hops and a hint of apple. The hops overpower the gentle apple flavor, but the funk and hops work well together. Medium bodied and average carbonation. Great beer!

[4928-20121108] Tap. Odd sour yeast note in the aroma. Slightly hazy, light orange brown body with a quick foamy white head. Light apple-infused straw yeast flavour with a sweet aftertaste. Light-medium body has a light tang. Interesting to sample. (6/3/7/3/14) 3.3
