Tap. Clear gold amber pour. Minimal head. Malty nose, taste of malt and caramel. Decent Scottish ale, but just not my style.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: JAN 15, 2010 On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear amber with a medium beige head. Faint malty and caramel nose. Flavor is also light caramel malt without much else. Could use a bit more complexity and strength.

This poured a lighter brown color with an off white head. Aroma was lightly skunky, stale grassy hops and light roasted malts. FLavor was stale bready and moldy german hops. Bleh.

dark brown, surprisingly thin body. very smokey/toasty malts, some sweetness, almost enought hops to crisp up the finish. i thought that this would be thicker, but the thin body went much better with the warm weather.

Not a big fan of this, brewery part of sampler, weird finish, so not high on my list here

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
72oz growler fill from brewpub ($34!!). aroma is lightly smoked well toasted malt. quite savory. khaki pour with fine head that lingers a spell but little carb. flavor is a touch flat and metallic. little of the toast from the nose visable in the flavor though when it reveals its welcome. lightly charred sawdust character, just a kiss of smoke.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Had a pint of this on tap at the brewpub before the Nine Inch Nails concert Sunday night.
Nose of brown sugar, malty cereal, and a hint of resin. Pours a clear orange copper. The
nice tan creamy head is mostly diminishing with thin lace. The brew tastes malty and
sweet with hints of spice and coffee. The medium body is creamy, soft and feels slightly
sticky at the finish. The only disappointment for me at the brewpub. I expect more from
an example of this style.

in a bar pint, sans head, appears whiskey red. bar odors make whiffing difficult, and the beer appears unwilling to help much. a guppy among scotch ales, must be a 60-70 schilling. light sweet maltiness emerges, no distinctive character to speak of. very low hops. obviously brewed for the casual drinker. i suggest adding 4 oz. of spaten optimator to each pint to give it some hair.

Draft - Great Lakes. Had a unique brown color. Had a nice malty flavor, but was just a little too thin. Smokey malt and sweet flavor. Good--Not great.

On tap at brewery: reddish brown in color, with small thin head, and pretty cloudy. Aroma is malty, maybe a bit yeasty. Flavor is malty and pretty sweet, with a bit of caramel. Too sweet overall. Not bad, but nothing especially great.
