3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Dark amber, lightly hazy pour with a sizable and lasting shaving cream head. Beautiful hop aroma of wet hay and peaches. Hop forward with earthy and citrus flavors followed by sweet caramel malt and finishing with a dry bitter finish. Slight lingering EtOH burn. Medium mouthfeel, slightly syrupy. A very nice, and very Midwestern DIPA.

On the dark side for an IIPA. Too much for caramel malts. Bready and munichy much like my own C-hop IIPA-same faults unfortunately-the sweetness (although not that significant) clashed rather than balanced against the significant hop bitterness. Hops are somewhat grassy, somewhat floral/spicy, somewhat citrus-again like my C-hop IIPA.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Aroma has great notes of peach, apricot, orange citrus, and sweet malt. Amber hue with an average sized white head that diminished to 3mm and then stick around to leave great lacing all the way till the end. Flavor is sweet malt with a slight roast bitterness on the finish. Palate is medium to medium/full bodied and soft. Great nose at first but the flavor seemed almost one dimensional with toasted malt being the only character. Palate is nice and overall it is very drinkable.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a clear orange with a sizable creamy head. Smell
has a sweet citrusy aroma. Big citrusy bitter hops with a well balanced sweet backbone of malts. This beer ends nice and smooth and lingers in the tongue. This is a very enjoyable Impy IPA. Well done Great Lakes.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Glowing gold with a white head. Loads of citrus, grass, earthy, and funky hops in this one. A bit of malt to balance it but not overly sweet like most imperial ipas. I could down a sixer of these except for that hidden 9% abv. Good stuff.

UPDATED: JUL 11, 2010 Ummmm hops and resin and hops and citrus and hops. Pretty much explains this boldly hopped brew from GLBC. So glad the guys in Cleveland decided to share this beer again through bottles as the Monster had been "tamed" at the brew pub. However, this beer has real legs and not some mass-produced seasonal that you should look over. A golden body and off-white head makes for a pleasing and intense hop flavor. GLBC knows how to makes beers with flavor and this one does not dissapoint. If resiny hops and spruce aftertaste are what you after, grab a bottle of the Lake Erie Monster...because who knows when you will see it again.

Bottle thanks to Miketd. Pours a clear copper color with a small white head. A rich nose of fruit and citrus hops. The flavor is almost dry; fruity hops, light bitterness, smooth and tasty. Very fruity.

In a word, balance. A full mouthfeel, and a meal in itself. Enjoyed on tap at Pizza Plant Transit, post-extreme beer fest. Orange-Peachy colour, with lace sheets. Fruity aroma. Very fresh.
