4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
This monster pours a amber color with a finger sized head. Lacing is everywhere on this one. Not a section of my glass didn’t have some kind of lacing on it.
The smell was pretty damn nice. Very sweet malt aroma which I wasn’t expecting. Grapefruit and citrus. Alcohol is very present and it just says that I’m not a beer to mess around with.
This is a very malt forward Double IPA. I thought it was a good mixture of a East Coast and West Coast Double IPA. While the malt is pretty big in the taste, the hops come through big too. It’s a very fruit taste. Grapefruit, citrus, melon, and slight grassy. The only thing that might of gotten in the way slightly was the alcohol taste. While not overbearing, it was still a little to noticeable in my mind. If they somehow hid the alcohol just a little bit more this would be just killer.
The mouthfeel was thick, nicely carbonated, oily, and juicy. It’s so hoppy at times I felt the same way I did with Pliny the Younger. Felt like the enamel was coming off your teeth.

Nice ipa flavor with an orange citrus aroma. Not a huge Great Lakes fan but this is a solid beer

Enjoyable and hoppy beer without being too over powering. The alcohol was well hidden and the hops nicely balanced with orange flavor.

Smells of alcohol but tastes like malt and hops. Easy to drink but not fruity at all. Strong beer that is copper in come. Had at bad dog

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
10oz pour at Big Hunt in DC. Pours a hazy orange with some thin, creamy, white head. Nose has a mix of sweet malt, a little caramel, some mild candy and pine, soap, orange, grapefruit. Flavors are the same, a little butterscotch lurking, some reduced orange juice, pithy, piney too. Lightly sticky finish but also quite drinkable at 9%.

Transfer from BA review from 8-26-12 -
Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass
Appearance – Served a very lightly hazed golden-orange color with a light white head. The head faded over time to leave a good level of lacing.
Smell – The smell is a nice balance of citrus hop, sweet tropical fruits (mango and pineapple) as well as some malty breadiness. A balanced smell that is not subtle, but yet not overpowering either.
Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter fruit and malt base. The fruit is a mix of tropical flavors as well as citrus with the malt being of a bready nature. As the taste advances some of the sweetness and malt fades, but the hop increases with some flavors of grapefruit and a tangerine/lemon hop coming to the tongue. While the sweetness fades some in the middle, it resurges again at the end. With it there is a slight increase in the hoppy nature of the beer as well. The citrus hop flavors get stronger and in the end, a nice sweet yet hoppy flavor are left on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average to creamier side with a carbonation level that is just below average. Both suit the more balanced hop and sweet malt flavors of the brew very well.
Overall – A very tasty, sweeter, and rather drinkable Imperial IPA. Quite nice.

This beer is great! Hops out the wazoo, that’s what an ipa should be, and this definitely delivers! The issue arises afterward, where some ipas have a crisp finish, this has a syrupy lingering hop taste....
This is worth it. Buy it, try it, but make sure you have a glass of water handy. Because you’ll need it...

Really good. A great thickish amber color. Tastes hoppy bit not bitter. My ideal looking beer. I want my flagship beer to look like this.
