3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: APR 17, 2005 Figured I’d better try this one last time before it was too far past freshness date on the bottle. Blonde pour with a foamy white head. Not much retention or lace. Mildy malty aroma, with grassy noble hops. Bready malt profile with slight spice and a hint of fruit from the hops. Clean finish with the slightest hint of yeast. I liked drinking this at Jacobs Field. Too bad this didn’t sell better, or it would probably still be in the bottling rotation. Now, where’s the Barrel Select Pils bottles?

Pours golden with a white head. Weak aroma. Taste is average lagerish. Low hops, watery, almost bland. Proof that GLB actually makes a boring beer.

Pretty good and tasty, but not my favorite. Seemed like something was lacking. Kind of a hoppy beer to be called a lager in my opinion. Definitely drinkable...

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Light gold color. Small to medium sized very foamy head. Aroma is bready and citrusy. A medium to light bodied Dort/Helles. Malts are bready, fruity and sweet. Mild hops. Tastes like a slightly toned down version of the Dortmunder Gold. Still has a nice malt/hop profile, just a little less of both. Mild flavored beer, a huge step up from Bud. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: NOV 30, 2007 I find this beer to be extremely smooth and still have a rich flavour of both malt and hops. It is not as bitter as the other Great Lakes beers, and makes an excellent choice when you want to buy a good beer for guests whose tastes you are unsure of. I actually like this one a lot better than the Dortmunder gold, which is supposedly a similar style. This beer is more mellow, but I also think it is richer and more complex.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
This was just a normal beer with some kind of kick to it, a hoppy slightly bitter taste to it. Definitely something very different I haven’t tasted before, overal a good beer tasting beer.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Clear gold color with a creamy/soapy head. Sweet malt with slightly bitter hoppiness in the finish. A tiny bit of something off, but overall very drinkable.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Golden yellow color and light white head. Malty aroma with little hops. Clean flavor, bready, touches of corn at times, fairly light for the style even. Despite that, because it’s Great Lakes, this beer is not too bad.

Thanks to atpayne for this. Pours slight turbid gold with medium white head. Aroma of malt, slight hopcit. Has a Hellesy taste, with some hopcit and slight corn syrup at the finish.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Medium gold color with a decent head and lacing, and a mild bready spicy aroma. Light bodied and smooth, biscuity with a touch of citrus in the flavor and a clean finish. Very drinkable and it seemed to me a little lighter but still flavorful version of their outstanding Dortmunder Gold.
