3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 JaBier (3249) - Capital City, USA - JAN 21, 2012
On tap at GLBC on 1/16/12. Clear gold pour with a medium white head. Aroma of lemon and grapefruit with some pale malt. Malty flavor with earthy English hops, before a crisp orange peel finish. This used to be my favorite session beer back when it was distributed, but when they changed the name to "ESB" vs. "Ale", I’d swear they changed the recipe because the citrus seemed to lessen significantly. Either I was full of it or they changed the recipe back because this batch is tasting really good.

tap at the brewpub - Pours copper and has a mild, hoppy aroma with some caramel. The flavor is light hops bitterness with bready and caramel malt and a hint of fruit. The bitterness lingers pleasantly.

Having never tasted a Premium Bitter/ ESB I ordered this on tap at the Great Lakes Brewing Co. (on the day it became available to the public) blindly. The aroma is similar to that of an IPA with the heavy hoppiness associated with such beers. As the beer first hits your tongue you can really taste the hops and as you swallow and there is an aftertaste lingering in your mouth, it consists of a nice wheaty, alcohol taste like you would experience with a wheat bear. Overall, This is a very good beer definitely worth getting again.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 BigBeer45 (973) - Michigan, USA - SEP 10, 2009
Has a clear deep gold to copper pour with faint amber and orange hues, made a foamy white and off-white bubbled head, some lacing left on the glass, looks like a pretty beer, lots of malt sweetness aroma with honey, bread malt and caramel, flavors of caramel and bread malt flavors, some malt sweetness but it lasts for a few seconds and disappears with the hop bitterness in this brew, felt like it had a medium mouth feel, ok beer.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Acetobacter (816) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 31, 2009
Enjoyed from a growler in a pub glass with joshwilfong. Pours a deep brilliant copper with a white head. I got notes of toasted malt in the nose (perhaps Victory malt?) with just a touch of fruity esters. The flavors were pretty clean and straightforward. Toasted malt, a little bit of malty sweetness from a bit of other character malt, and English hops and a touch of fruit in the finish. Given the requirements and constraints of the style, I found this to be a really well-crafted interpretation. Another excellent beer from Great Lakes.

reddish brown with decent white head. moderate to low carbonation. malty nose. flavor with some English hop bitterness, minimal hop flavor and then some nice toasty maltiness with just a little sweetness. some esters at the finish. very nice ESB
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 ChainGangGuy (3837) - Canton, Georgia, USA - MAY 3, 2009
Appearance: Lightly hazy, amber body with a small-sized, white head.
Smell: Malts smelling of biscuits lovingly spiked with wildflower honey and a floral first, spicy second hop scent. Background note of fruit.
Taste: Lightly biscuity maltiness with sweet touches of toffee and honey. Splash of apricot juice garnished with a thin slice of lemon. Floral, spicy, even citrusy hops with a medium amount of balancing bitterness. The spiciness grows into a light taste of white pepper. Finishes dry and crisp with a bit of lingering hop bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Downright quaffable! A pleasant, refreshing ale I could drink all damn day.

Yellow with a medium quickly dissipating white head. Aroma of citrus, bread and pale malt. Smooth body tastes of mild fruit, pale malts with a weak bitter finish. Mild hop presence in this not terribly exciting beer.
