(from Premier Gourmet, Buffalo; w/ GregClow, jerc) trayns (212), Beverly Hills, Michigan, USA May 25, 2009 Bottle. Pours a red copper color with a little white head. The aroma is dominated by caramel, toast, and just some malty sweetness. Taste is nice and complex, big multilayered malt body with a subtle hoppy tone. Palate was nice, chewy and interesting, I very interesting and enjoyable brew. dchmela (1185), Orlando, Florida, USA May 3, 2009 Bottle courtesy STFun. Pours a brownish red with a thick creamy head. Caramel malt, toffee, citrus, grassy hops aroma. Big malt body with a spicy hop bitter taste. Big malt and hops, good stock ale. esjaygee (1260), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA May 2, 2009 Hazy reddish orange with a medium tan lace maker. Aroma of citrus, caramel, biscuit and light fruits. Taste of citrus, grapefruit, caramel, biscuits and alcohol. Finishes up with some moderate bitterness and dryness. Pretty decent. jerc (3625), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 11, 2009 2009-04-10. Dark red amber body with a modest bubbly beige head. (3+) Interesting aroma, generic fruit and a pleasant melange of grains - descriptors elude me. (7+) Sweetish malt flavour, tangy malt finish. Bitterness has faded it seems, the bottle was not super fresh when we bought it. Alcohol is impressively invisible. (6+) Average palate is smooth but a touch light. Decent. Bottle from Premier Gourmet, Buffalo mgumby10 (1815), West Palm Beach, Florida, USA Apr 10, 2009 Pours a dark amber color, with a smallish off white head. smells of big caramel malt, juicy citrus hops, abd hints of other sweet fruits. Nice little nose to it. The flavor is fairly sweet as well, some cereal grain, caramel malt, and woodsy notes, as well as some piney hops in the finish. The hop biterness really shows up inthe aftertaste, as it sits on the tongue awhile. This is well crafted, and nice to drink. ChainGangGuy (2313), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Apr 2, 2009 Appearance: Pours a clear, reddish-amber body with an inch of frothy, off-white head.
Smell: Fragrant mix of caramel-coated, oven-toasted biscuits, cut grasses, grapefruit, pepper. A bit sweet-smelling, a bit spicy, a bit citrusy. Nice!
Taste: Toasted biscuit maltiness with just a faint touch of dry caramel and even lesser hint of sweetness. Grassy, leafy hop character drizzled with freshly-squeezed grapefruit juice. Medium-high bitterness alongside a pinch of white pepper. Finishes dry with a bitterness that lingers on into the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Very slight oiliness to the mouthfeel.
Drinkability: Reminds me a bit of our local Terrapin Big Hoppy Monster. A fine beer to pair with the F. W. Murnau film, which I do own, I’ll admit, but I opted instead to set it against tonight’s Colbert Report. A fair base of malts with plenty of hops and bitterness (and alcohol), yet it still remains easily drinkable -- good job as always, Great Lakes. shawnm213 (539), South Bend, Indiana, USA Mar 30, 2009 Split a 4 pack with pampdogg. well balanced is right. looks like blood but tastes like good beer.
