Hoppy aroma of cut grass and grapefruit; more than I was expecting, but a nice surprise.
Taste was full bodied, with a sharp hop bite balanced by a malty backbone.
Moderately thick mouthfeel that gave a nice finish to the drink.
Overall, this was a decent beer and I would recommend it.

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 9, 2008 Had this right after the Flying Dog Double... this one is much more balanced. Aroma is hoppy with a caramel background. A more roasted American strong that balances the subdued sweetness with the kick of the hops. Bells has some serious competition as my favorite brewery in Great Lakes. BeerBunker (607), Burbank, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 8, 2008 Pours a deep red, almost amber color with a frothy beige head. Aroma is of bitter hops, malts, citrus, and sugars. Taste is immediately of bitter hops, followed by a lingering sweetness with a nice alcohol bite. Tastes more like an overly alcoholic IPA that a strong ale, but still very good. kmeves (1080), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA

Nice long bitter finish. flatmatt (222), Northville, Michigan, USA

Aroma is a combination of citrus, spicy, piney hops and sharp toasty caramel malts. Flavor is grainy toasted bread, piney and grapefruit hops, caramel. Good lacing, good beer. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 3, 2008 Pours deep red with an offwhite, light head. Aroma is hoppy with a cereal malt backing. Flavor has a heavy dose of the typical great lakes malt with a strong hops presence. The hops are strong, but mostly in the finish. Along with some toffee and other interesting malt complexities. Interesting ale. I like it a lot more than most other Great Lakes beers. FunkyBrewster (443), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 28, 2008 Pours a very dark red with a small white head. Aroma is extremely hoppy and a bit of dark fruit but I did not pick up much malt. Flavor is hoppy from start to finish. Some of the malt and fruit sweetness come in and help balance it at the end, but there is no mistaken, this is a hop dominated beer. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Nice beer. not as balanced as they say, but a good ale nonetheless.
