Commercial Description:
Often referred to as Burning River Pale Ale's big brother, this stock ale is remarkably balanced for such a highly hopped beer. A rich deep blood red color makes this beer scary enough to be served every Halloween and a few other times of the year.

Pours a clear amber with minimal off white head. Aroma is medium sweet, some spice, earthy, herbal, grapefruit and caramel malt. Flavor is grapefruit, herbal, piney, sweet malt and other fruits. Medium body. Nice long bitter finish.

12 oz bottle. Pours clear red brown with a medium light tan head. Aroma is a combination of citrus, spicy, piney hops and sharp toasty caramel malts. Flavor is grainy toasted bread, piney and grapefruit hops, caramel. Good lacing, good beer.

Pours deep red with an offwhite, light head. Aroma is hoppy with a cereal malt backing. Flavor has a heavy dose of the typical great lakes malt with a strong hops presence. The hops are strong, but mostly in the finish. Along with some toffee and other interesting malt complexities. Interesting ale. I like it a lot more than most other Great Lakes beers.

Pours a very dark red with a small white head. Aroma is extremely hoppy and a bit of dark fruit but I did not pick up much malt. Flavor is hoppy from start to finish. Some of the malt and fruit sweetness come in and help balance it at the end, but there is no mistaken, this is a hop dominated beer. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Nice beer. not as balanced as they say, but a good ale nonetheless.

Poured from a 12-oz bottle a dark copper color with a small head. Has a sweet smell of fruity hops. A nice creamy taste of caramel malt to go along with the citrus hops. A nice balanced beer with a alcohol kick in the finish.

On tap. Pours dark amber with off-white head. Aroma of hops, citurs, pine, malt and caramel. Flavor is hops, citurs, brown sugar, sweet and caramel malts. Nice lacing. This is in between an IPA and a barley wine. Perfet for the american strong ale catagory. Good brew for a cool fall evening sitting by the fire.

Bottle from Whole Foods. Pour is a deep red-copper. The nose is strong and piney, with a nice resin kick in there. Smells pretty damn awwesome. Quickly disappearing Yellow head. Very big and abrasive hop kick, I can see the similarities to Burning River, though this is way better. Nice heavy bitterness with a good malt compliment that is not too much caramel malt, which I typically do not like. This is a damn fine beer that I could drink all year. Excellent.

Pours dark ruby brown in color with a nice inch of off white head. Not necessarily lacing on the side of the glass, but there’s definitely some suds left. Smell is somewhat muted hops and plenty of caramel malt. Taste reveals much more hops than what appears in the nose. This is very bittering and piney hops in flavor. Clean and non-cloying in the mouthfeel. This is very bitter. Decent fall beer from GL.
