Commercial Description:
Often referred to as Burning River Pale Ale's big brother, this stock ale is remarkably balanced for such a highly hopped beer. A rich deep blood red color makes this beer scary enough to be served every Halloween and a few other times of the year.

Poured from a 12-oz bottle a dark copper color with a small head. Has a sweet smell of fruity hops. A nice creamy taste of caramel malt to go along with the citrus hops. A nice balanced beer with a alcohol kick in the finish.

On tap. Pours dark amber with off-white head. Aroma of hops, citurs, pine, malt and caramel. Flavor is hops, citurs, brown sugar, sweet and caramel malts. Nice lacing. This is in between an IPA and a barley wine. Perfet for the american strong ale catagory. Good brew for a cool fall evening sitting by the fire.

Bottle from Whole Foods. Pour is a deep red-copper. The nose is strong and piney, with a nice resin kick in there. Smells pretty damn awwesome. Quickly disappearing Yellow head. Very big and abrasive hop kick, I can see the similarities to Burning River, though this is way better. Nice heavy bitterness with a good malt compliment that is not too much caramel malt, which I typically do not like. This is a damn fine beer that I could drink all year. Excellent.

Pours dark ruby brown in color with a nice inch of off white head. Not necessarily lacing on the side of the glass, but there’s definitely some suds left. Smell is somewhat muted hops and plenty of caramel malt. Taste reveals much more hops than what appears in the nose. This is very bittering and piney hops in flavor. Clean and non-cloying in the mouthfeel. This is very bitter. Decent fall beer from GL.

Just sampled Burning River last night on draft, so fitting I am trying this one next. Very similar looking, though more reddish than the other’s orange tint. Thick foamy head. Aroma is very hoppy - grapefruit dominating with a little pine and a little caramel. Palate starts creamy, feel the carbonation, then I notice a bit of dry hoppiness. The palate is well balanced, I liked this.

Pours a deep ruby color with a light tan head. Aroma is sweet toffee, bread and some fruity hops. Very well balanced flavor, nice caramel malts with a great pairing of bitter hops. Nice full bodied mouthfeel, another great beer from Great Lakes.

12 oz bottle, Nice brew! Pours a copper red with a thin head. You can definitely smell the fruity hops. There is a good amount of caramel malt flavor, but the hops still dominate. Overall, really good beer. Goes down easy with big notice.

Blood orange with a nicely retaining head, and pleasant citrus aromatics. Great clarity and a medium soft cream finish. Rich, with a complex backbone of malt that tries to fend off the bitterness and isstill refreshing, with a bit of alcohol numbing for the gums. Annually anticipate the release of this bad boy.
