unclemattie (2370), Georgia, USA Jan 7, 2008 12oz bottle.deep amber/copper color. White head. Aroma of pine and apple trees. Flavor is sweet malt, bitter citrus hop flavor. Very nice malt character. Super nice hop. Lingering bitter finish. This is more of an Oktoberfest/Märzen style. hellbilly (1492), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Jan 6, 2008 bottle BB 12/27/7 courtesy of miketd...thanks. pours a rich dark amber color with a short lived off white head that quickly disappears but oddly leaves spots of lacing randomly in the glass. this smells very british...brown sugar, fresh herbs, pine and floral hops, dried orange peel and dried spices. flavor is pretty much the same... some kind of fruit, cinnamon/black pepper spiciness, dried herbs and floral hops. dry finish and lingering pine aftertaste. medium bodied. the mouth feel gets quite creamy as it’s sloshed around. it’s good. but kinda boring and one dimensional... jvmiller (532), Bel Air, Maryland, USA Jan 5, 2008 Crisp clean, reminds me of an english bitter, but with more malt. Smooth palate, easy to drink. Crisp hops. Very very enjoyable. Malt makes it only slightly heavy, but certainly has great balance. bleeng (587), Spring near Beersel, Texas, USA Jan 4, 2008 12oz bottle. Black but not opaque. No head but good legs (?). Malty, brewhouse nose, chocolates come through. Taste is caramely, chocolate, very malty but low hop profile. Good drinkability but a bit thin for this style. Not a special beer and seems to be a mixture of styles. Not a bad beer but GL brews much better beers than this. ReademNwheat (174), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 4, 2008 From a bottle. Pours a great deep amber color with small white head. Aroma of hops, piney hops. A pretty sweet beer with a big hop bite and caramel malts. Alcohol is hidden well. Great balance and very tasty. IEBAILI (123), San Diego, California, USA Dec 29, 2007 Absolutely gorgeous amber color, light tan head fades fairly quickly and leaves some lacing. Smells intensely of piney hops and caramel. Tastes warm, a little winey, herbal, noticeably bitter aftertaste. Body is a little thin in relation to the intensity of the aroma/ flavor. A hint of bitter orange peel, cognac, toasted marshmallow. Alcohol is noticeable but not intrusive. Flavors remind me a little of Fuller’s 1845. Tilley4 (218), Huron, Tennessee, USA Dec 27, 2007 I have been dying to try this one. I am a huge horror flick fan so Nosferatu is an icon in my world.
Pours dark, dark amber, almost red with a nice fluffy head and incredible lacing.
Smells very dark and fruity, almost like the Old Jubilation I had earlier.
Very fruity aroma with raisins, figs, and maybe grapes.
Tastes pretty much like I thought it would. Very sweet taste with an underlying maltiness and hoppiness to it. Very pleasant tasting beer.
I actually tried this right off the shelf so it wasn’t the least but chilled.
And I still loved it. Can’t wait to try it chilled. Was going to use this as trade fodder but I’m not sure I can get rid of it.
Excellent beer here. pepsican (883), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA Dec 24, 2007 Pours a bloody amber with a small off-white head. An upfront rush of hops is quickly tamed by a nice malt backdrop. Sweet sugar and grapefruit float in the flavor, as well as a bit of orange peels and spices. Finishes slightly syrupy, and lets you know the abv. An interesting bend from an IIPA, but not quite what I think of when I hear ASA.
