Commercial Description:
Often referred to as Burning River Pale Ale's big brother, this stock ale is remarkably balanced for such a highly hopped beer. A rich deep blood red color makes this beer scary enough to be served every Halloween and a few other times of the year.

Bottle from Rockinout. Light mahogony color with small head. Faint burnt malt aroma. Taste starts with lightly burnt malt but is incredibly balanced. Lots of piney hops. No alcohol burn, and the balance makes this an easy drinker for 8%. Very good, well made and balanced brew.

Pours ruby red with off white head and some lacing around the rim of the glass. Caramel malt aroma that really intrigued me. Citrus zest on the mouth-feel and a piney clean finish. Another great effort from Great Lakes

Bottle via trade from dankman38. Thanks Mike! Pour was a gorgeous crystal clear ruby and orange color with a creamy, off-white head that was two-fingers tall and persistent. Decent lacing. The aroma was sweet, biscuity malts with nice caramel hints that aren’t too much. Then the soft citrus of oranges takes over right before the pine and floral hops introduce themselves. The flavor maintains the balance noted in the aroma. From soft caramelly sweetness up front through citrus, floral and pine hops. Nice dry finish. Above average mouthfeel. Incredibly drinkable. Alcohol not noticed. I got your session beer right here.

One of my favorite beers of all time. Had most recently on draft at Mad Mex. Pours such a wonderful blood red. I just can’t wait to taste it when it’s poured. Great balance of carmel hops flavor. Never a disapointment.

Bottle, thanks to after4ever. Sweet caramel and pine nose. Pours clear dark amber with a fluffy, lacy off-white head. Light body and medium carbonation. Brown sugar and spice taste. Soft pine finish.

A good strong ale. The name is fitting based on how blood red the beer itself is. Nice and hoppy just the way I like it. Too bad it is just a seasonal. One of the best Midwest ASA I’ve found in my area.

This ale poured a cloudy dark orange colour with a dirty tan head. Similar to apple cider. To the nose it had scents of ripe fruit, dough, cider and some earthy notes...nutmeg??? First taste instantly had flavours of over steeped tea. Very hoppy palate with a bitter finish. Tea, tea and more tea flavours. Right through the palate. Speaking of which, it was very bitter.

This bottle is from Dec 01/06. The aroma is moderate hoppy. The head is creamy off-white, good lacing and mostly diminishing. The body is clear and amber brown in color. The initial flavor is back of the tongue bitter and a slight acetic, the finish is average. The body is light to medium, the texture watery and the carbonation soft. A good beer tht doesn’’t cellar very well.
