Commercial Description:
Often referred to as Burning River Pale Ale's big brother, this stock ale is remarkably balanced for such a highly hopped beer. A rich deep blood red color makes this beer scary enough to be served every Halloween and a few other times of the year.

On tap, 10/13/07. Deep amber color with slightly off white foam, decent retention and lacing. Aroma is lots of earthy hops and low degree crystal malts. Very bitter without a lot of hop flavor, very nice malt backbone keeps this from being over the top too bitter. Long lasting bitterness in the finish.

Deep Copper pour with off-white foamy head. Big hops notes in aroma, smells of citrus/grapefruit. More hops in flavor. Grapefruit, mango, and a little spice in the flavor. Building heat. Malt sweetness is fighting to get noticed, but it’s losing the battle due to the strong bitterness. Bitter finish. Not very balanced, but I’m digging it.

Very citrusy aroma and flavor, somewhat overwhelms the malt flavor from start to finish, a hophead’s delight as a session beer but just too bitter for a lot of them for me.

12 oz bottle - have had this too many times to count but just realized that I have not yet rated it. Pours a deep copper/red color with smallish light tan head. Aroma has fair amount of slightly citrusy hops, light caramel, faint vanilla, orange peel. Flavor has fair amount of citrusy hops, orange peel, light caramel, faint toast, with a solidly bitter finish. Always a great fall brew.

12 oz bottle. Clear amber with an orangish head. Aroma is citrusy. Very well balanced flavor, full bodied and bold. Hides its strength very well.

On tap at GLBC. Big bold flavor. Very sweet at the first sip. Great Cascade aroma and flavor. Full-bodied taste hides the alcohol well.

Bottle, courtesy of Moejuck. The pour reveals a clear reddish copper color with a thin beige head. Solid aroma of hops with caramel malt and fruits. Very good flavor of strong, assertive hops with caramel malt and fruits, it finishes with bitterness. The body is medium with a liquorous texture and moderate carbonation.

Caramel color. Smell of hops, malt, oranges, caramel, spice and bread. Taste of hops, malt, citrus, alcohol, caramel, pine, sugar, burnt toast, grapefruit and spice. Very hoppy and bitter.
