Pours a really cool looking deep garnet, with a one finger, lightly tan head. The foam fades very slowly to a thick cap, leaving behind a solid sheeting of lace.
Smell; lots of caramel malts, with a little bit of chocolate sprinkled in. There’s a little bit of a citric hop presence even after being in the bottle for a year, with a little bit of some spices. Cherries and figs make a nice presence.
Taste; the caramel and chocolaty malts are very evident, but the hops are not as strong as they were in the aroma. I shouldn’t be to surprised by that since this is a year old. There’s a nice fruit presence with the cherries and a bit of orange peel, with a little brown sugar in the finish, with no alcohol peeking through at all.
Mouthfeel/Drinkability; Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, with a very good drinkability. eaglefan538 (2358), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 13, 2007 Poured an amber color, ok initial head for a higher abv beer. The aroma was earthy, piney hops, some caramel. The flavor was caramel malts, tea bags, light citrus hops, and earthy flavors. The mouthfeel was moderate, alcohol hid ok. A decent brew, but not fancy enough for the alcohol level. On par with a standard IPA in excitement level. Thanks to Bert for this bottle! gsmitty80 (638), Washington DC, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 9, 2007 12oz. bottle. Red-shifted amber with a thin film of off white head. Sweet tropical fruit and buttery malt in the aroma. Ruddy, mildly toasty malt combines with a less assertive earthen, spicy, piney hop character. Some residual bitterness in the finish, with old caramel and hints of alefruit. Mouthfeel is a slightly heavy medium. HopheadHans (755), Bay Area, California, USA

The beer is advertised to have bite and bite it does. Aromas are of malt and fruit. Flavor is a mix of bitterness, sweetness and fruiiness. The mouthfeel is quite nice, medium to full bodied. Long lasting finish dominated by a hop bite. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA

Sweet grapefruit nose, big maltiness with a slightly earthy tone. Well balanced and big, the flavor of the malts comes to the fore, chewy and somewhat sweet, with fat grapefruit and caramel flavors. Earthy and bitter citrus finish. Excellent. ogglethorp (887), Ohio, USA
