Commercial Description:
Often referred to as Burning River Pale Ale's big brother, this stock ale is remarkably balanced for such a highly hopped beer. A rich deep blood red color makes this beer scary enough to be served every Halloween and a few other times of the year.

Dark Amber beer with soft fluffy off white head. Nose of hops that is pretty intense upon the first whiffs. Pleasantly hoppy with a malt back bone. Interesting Strong Ale. I was surprised how the malty complexity was nicely balanced and often overpowered by the hops. Great Beer to drink while watching and Evening with Kevin Smith.

Poured a dark reddish color with no real head to speak of. Kind of a sweet aroma with a little bit of hops to it. The flavor was a little malt, and a lot of hops. This was the first time I had tried the style, and I have to say, I’m not a fan.

Pours a blood red just too cool, small white head. Fruity aroma mixed with alcohol. The flavor is pretty sweet with dark fruits and a strong bitterness from the hops mostly grapefruit, very barleywine like. Chocolate malts in the backbone to really balance it out. Man this stuff taste 10 times different on draught.

Thanks Joe Mcphee for this collection of beers from the states. Fruity aroma, raspberry maybe. Reddish copper colour with a thin head. Suprisling smooth and easy to drink for the strength. Tangy hops with a nice bitter finish. One of my favourites. Opened my palette up to American beers once again. Great stuff.

my first american strong ale. Had this on tap at the Bocktown Bar in Robinson Twp. Has the aroma of sweet hoppyness. Pours brown crean soda - not too dark. Did not see too much red! Pretty hoppy taste impact with hints of orange or grapefruit citrus. Has an imposing personality about it. You can tell there are lots of hops in there. Finish is as astringent linger that lasts and lasts. Too much for me.

pours a clear reddish dark amber small head with some lacing. very little aroma with hint of malt. intial taste is of a smooth malt that follows with pretty big hoppyness. this one seems pretty close to a barley wine in style... just a couple % light. Overall a very nicely balanced big ale.

Bottle (BB Nov 23, 06). Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is medium to dark amber. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (cookie, caramel), lightly to moderately hoppy (grapefruit, flowers), with notes of candied fruit and alcohol. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. Not very distinctive, but pleasant and well-balanced for its style.

Bottled. BB Nov.23, 2006. Beer is medium crimson-brown with a small, off-white, frothy, quickly diminishing head. Body adrift with small, crystalline-like flakes. I’m guessing protein.
The aroma is a bit reminiscent of a barley wine. It’s malty with moderate notes of toasted grain, moderate-to-heavy notes of cookie, caramel; Hoppy with moderate-to-heavy notes of resin, light note of thyme-like herb, trace of dull lemon zest; Yeasty with a moderate note of sourdough, trace of basement; Moderate miscellaneous note of sticky dried currents and stone fruit, light note of alcohol, trace note of cardboard.
The flavor is moderately-to-heavily bitter, moderately sweet with a long, moderately bitter, lightly sweet grippy finish.
The body is medium, the texture is watery and the carbonation is lively.
