BeerRules (237), Houston, Texas, USA Dec 3, 2006 Rich nutty, fruity and malty aroma. taste is biscuity, fruity, with a strong spicy/floral hop kick. Mouthfeel and co2 are perfect. Overall, this was a damn nice beer, thanks santa. realale420 (399), west covina, California, USA Nov 30, 2006 12oz bottle (thanks to GrbDg) poured a nice clean reddish amber color with a small off white head. The aroma had a grapefruit hop nose and a good sweet caramel malt. The taste was well balanced for the amount of hops and alcohol. This beer reminds of Arrogant Bastard. millstadtguy (50), Millstadt, Illinois, USA Nov 29, 2006 Updated: Nov 30, 2006Pours a very deep amber color from the bottle with a fair head. Aroms of hops. Brew is full of flavor with a good maltiness followed by a good dose of hops. Very complex & flavorfull. Boutip (2332), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Nov 28, 2006 Bottle courtesy of Tpaliga: Poured a medium amber color ale with a small dirty white foamy head with average retention. Aroma of sweet malt with some bitter hops is interesting. Taste of sweet malt is easily shadowed by the citrus and bitter hops. Body is a bit light and lighter filtration would have been preferred. Alcohol is not dominant and well controlled. Good take on a style that I do not enjoyed particularly but that is always interesting to try. sneagrams3 (1704), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Nov 19, 2006 12oz bottle. Deep ruby garnet hue. Bright and filtered. Ever so slight ring of white head. Fruity, nutty aroma. Red lush berries and caramel malt. Spicy citrus hops in the nose. Medium and super dry. Yet surprisingly smooth. But the bitter hop finish is extreme. Medium short lived malt character, replaced quickly with a bitter citrus grapefruit hop blast. Finish is zesty and spicy and piney. Little cloying, but more so sticky. As it warms in my glass, the malts last a bit longer and are a little more nutty. Subtle sweetness that sneaks in before the vanilla alcohol burn takes effect. Still spicy on the tip of my tongue. Solid offering from a great brewery. The abv does stand out, but it’s nothing overt. I’ve been looking forward to trying this brew for months, and I was not dissapointed. tjthresh (1746), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Nov 16, 2006 12 ounce bottle from GrbDg. What a great bloody red color with a nice tan head. Really nicely balanced all around. Some grapefruit, toffee, nuts, pine, grass, and fruit come through great in all aspects of the beer. Palate is rich with prickly bubbles. Really a damn nice drink. Thanks Cliff. Cletus (5001), Connecticut, USA Nov 15, 2006 Pours a ruby red with a thin head but persistent lacing. Smells of rich cherries, tarte malt and some mellow hops. Tastes moderately hoppy with rose hips, light cherries and lots of malt. Mouthfeel is sweet and balanced. Finish is earthy and refreshing. kseecs16 (865), Naperville, Illinois, USA Nov 15, 2006 Bottle. Pours a crimson red that shows a brilliant ruby in light. A large light tan head that laces the glass rests atop this fine ale. Beautiful sweet full hoppy aroma. Smooth, full, crisp, excellent, this sweet, citrusy beer is a great balance of hops and malt with a beautiful resinous body. As excellent as I remembered having it on tap when it came out this year.
