mj (4971), Colorado, USA Jan 14, 2006 Deep orange and red color. Somewhat hoppy, grassy (alpha king-like) nose, which is interesting. Sweet cedar and plum scented. Very sweet and somewhat dry as well. Cherry wood, cedar wood, plums and red grapes around within a mildly spicy Belgian-like yeast. CMUBEERMAN (415), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jan 12, 2006 This is a wierd beer. Taste is very heavy and a bit like of soap. The slightly bitter aftertasted saves it. It pours dark orange and smells pretty good. Not my fave though. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA Dec 28, 2005 Bottle from Kevin. Body-dark hazy amber with a patchy film of bubbles. Nose-smells like overripend canatloupes. Taste-bran flakes, malt extract, low key sweetness, honey, brown sugar, molasses, great hops on the finish. The hops on the finish are nearly perfect without having an unpleasant biterness. This has all the flavors that I look for in a big American barleywine, but none of the associated sweetness, and I love that! Excellent. thedm (3833), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Dec 27, 2005 This bottled brew marked bbf 11/20/04 poured a large sized head of fine to medium sized mostly lasting light tan bubbles that left behind a fair lacing. The body contained soft carbonation, was transparent and brown in color. Its aroma contained notes of hoppy caramel malt. Its mouth feel is initially tingly smooth with a hoppy aftertaste. Its flavor contained caramel hoppy notes. An above average brew. KAggie97 (2406), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA Dec 24, 2005 Bottle from Santa Pours a rich gold/yellow, with an aroma of pear, grapefruit, and sour grape. Eerily wonderful lacing. Flavor is grapefruit, peach, apricot, and a bit of berry. Palate is slippery. Quite good. SuIIy (1405), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA Dec 22, 2005 12oz bottle from Dough77...Thanks Tim! Pours a dark copper color with a slight white head. Nose of berries and hops, some light apricot and some bread. Taste is very bitter and very hoppy. light bread here as well, with a nice bit of sweet caramel malt thrown in. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA Dec 19, 2005 ericmc83 (200), Arkansas, USA Dec 17, 2005 Hard to pick out specifics in the aroma. Some hops and citrus. Fairly smooth but the end is pretty bitter. some grassy notes. For the style, not a bad brew I guess...but I don’t care for it all that much.
