The color is very nice and dark, with a pretty and creamy head. The aroma is thick and full of malt, sweetness, and hops. The flavor is strong with sweetness, spice and roasted malt. A great strong bitterness finishes the beer. Excellent. DrBayern (1135), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA

Faint malty nose , but hops dominate. Barely noticeable alcohol , flavor is again dominated by hops. Very enjoyable. .Re-rated 09/22/06. Head is much larger with better structure and durability, nice lace. Medium body with slight stickiness, medium carbonation. Some burnt caramel, dark cherry, grapefruit bitterness. Long bitter finsih. this years version seems a little better to me. RAYBOY01 (1828), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 1, 2005 Rich roasted caramel and toffee malts artfully balanced by a heap of hops...mainly of the Pacific Northwest citrus/grapefruit variety. Very tasty and repeatable...Nice long-lasting bitterness right through the lingering finish, too. Panzuriel (993), Westerville, Ohio, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Sep 26, 2005 Dark Coppery brown liquid with a nice beige head. Nose is dry and very strong hoppy. Taste is full, hoppy and more dry bitterness that evolves and lingers. Mouthfeel is somewhat less than expected, yet still a bit tangy or fizzy. Finishes dry and good back of the mouth bitters. jzzbassman (842), New Albany, Mississippi, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 25, 2005 Poured a beautiful brick red color with a white head that was gone before I was done smelling it. The aroma was a lot of grapefruit and hay. Big flavor with a bite, but I had no idea this was an 8% beer, as I didn’t read anything first and the alcohol was well hidden.
Very enjoyable. Thanks again OhioDad!! Pailhead (2583), Allen Park, Michigan, USA

Aroma is buttery caramel with hints of citrus and flowery hops. Pours a bright transparent reddish-orange with a small white head. Lots of caramel and toffee up front, but it comes across slightly watery. Finishes with a light grapefruit hoppiness that seems to increase in the aftertaste and then lingers for some time. Incredibly drinkable. jazz88 (2236), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 8, 2005 Bottle. A reddish amber color with a tan head. The aroma had sweet caramel, apple, slightly toasted malts. A moderately spiced and hoppy flavor with caramel. Smooth and enjoyable throughout. Thanks to OhioDad (Scott) for the trade.
