grebs (69), Ohio, USA Aug 11, 2009 Hoppy and malty at the same time. Great balance and a beautiful color. Hides its alcohol very well. Perfect for Halloween. Thicker palate than most Great Lakes brews that aren’t Porter/Stout. A well thought out beer. Lagunitasfan (432), San Diego, California, USA Aug 4, 2009 Bottle shared at DDG release party. Copper orange/red pour. Great color. Big nose. Sweet, caramel, hoppy and malty. Taste is the same. Had a flat bounce in the mouth. Pastor (509), Maine, USA Jul 27, 2009 Bottle poured into a snifter produced a finger worth of white head that settled to a lace. The body color of the brew was a wonderful burgandy red.
The aroma reminded me of a barleywine in a lot of ways. There is a great sweetness followed by some light hops. The flavor is more of the same but I no alcohol showing up considering it an 8%brew. I got some nice sweet caramel with a light citrus bite. The feel in my mouth was great nice and smooth with a light carbonation
A good brew nothing over the top about it but worth the drink. I easily finished this bottle as was wanting for more
mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 10, 2009 [2088-20090410] 12floz bottle. Fresh boozy malt aroma is mostly toasted sweet grains, mild cheese rind and mild floral yeast. Clear, dark amber red body with a medium-lasting creamy light tan head. Yeasty malt flavour is heavy with grains and a long aftertaste. Medium-full body. Average, has lots of booze and grains.
(from Premier Gourmet, Buffalo; w/ GregClow, jerc) trayns (237), Beverly Hills, Michigan, USA May 25, 2009 Bottle. Pours a red copper color with a little white head. The aroma is dominated by caramel, toast, and just some malty sweetness. Taste is nice and complex, big multilayered malt body with a subtle hoppy tone. Palate was nice, chewy and interesting, I very interesting and enjoyable brew. dchmela (1406), Orlando, Florida, USA May 3, 2009 Bottle courtesy STFun. Pours a brownish red with a thick creamy head. Caramel malt, toffee, citrus, grassy hops aroma. Big malt body with a spicy hop bitter taste. Big malt and hops, good stock ale. esjaygee (1467), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA May 2, 2009 Hazy reddish orange with a medium tan lace maker. Aroma of citrus, caramel, biscuit and light fruits. Taste of citrus, grapefruit, caramel, biscuits and alcohol. Finishes up with some moderate bitterness and dryness. Pretty decent. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 11, 2009 2009-04-10. Dark red amber body with a modest bubbly beige head. (3+) Interesting aroma, generic fruit and a pleasant melange of grains - descriptors elude me. (7+) Sweetish malt flavour, tangy malt finish. Bitterness has faded it seems, the bottle was not super fresh when we bought it. Alcohol is impressively invisible. (6+) Average palate is smooth but a touch light. Decent.
