wunderbier (1264), Tampere, Finland Sep 3, 2005 Clear amber-gold-orange hue with a medium, creamy, off-white head. Strong herbal/floral and pungent pine aroma. Dark bread, light brown sugar malts. Starts out pretty sweet (german base malts?) with a moderate bitterness. Lightly sweet, heavily bitter finish. Perfume like. Medium-full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Philip (436), Illinois, USA Sep 2, 2005 By remarkably balanced I believe they mean "over-hopped." Its not the content of hops (i.e. Devil Dancer "over-hops" and does well), but here the hops come off unbalanced. There’s some spice and heat here, accentuated by my having some post-rating with a red sauce and fresh herbs from the garden. Unfortunately, a lot of the complexity is lost to the hops. They’ve done well with their porter, stout, and dortmunder, but this disappointed me. ehhdayton (1113), USA Sep 1, 2005 A spicey floral aroma is present and the color is a medium golden brown. The taste of hops is present from the beginning and remains so throughout. ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA Aug 31, 2005 I’ve been keeping an eye out for this one for years. Scored the last two bottles a few weeks ago at Viking premium beverage on King Ave in Columbus. Pours a medium clear copper. The tall off white head is creamy with fair lace. The nose has primarily hop notes of spice, spruce, and resin, with a hint of lilac. The flavor starts with a blast of hop bitterness right from the get-go. Maintains the status quo through to the finish which adds a touch of alcoholic presence. The body is medium creamy and soft, but has a slightly "loose" feel. Not bad, but didn’t meet my expectations. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 30, 2005 Copper body with a velvety off-white head and good lacing. Strong woody hop aroma plus caramel and brown sugar. Sweet crystal malt flavor with nice toasty notes and balancing woody/earthy hop character with partly drying bitterness. Medium-full body. A solid stock ale. Thanks Erway.
Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Aug 29, 2005 Large light orange head of fine bubbles. Dense and creamy on top. Light carbonation. Sweet and malty aroma with a hint of alcohol. Nothing very distinctive. Maybe a little bit of hops. Color is a bright orange. Strong bitterness that is balanced very well with the sweet malts. Plentiful hops! Some alcohol that imparts a nice warming. Little dry citrus in the flavor with a pretty sharp bitterness at the finish. Long and dry and makes the mouth pucker. Alcohol shows up at the finish also. Aroma a little weak in my bottle but the flavor makes up for it big time. Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA Aug 29, 2005 This baby poured red, just like they said. Tan creamy head on a clear red body. Very good lacing, Head stayed till the bitter-sweet-sad end. Malt nose, with dark fruits, then lemon-citrus. Caramel and orange. Wow, big hops here, once past that, caramel, and sweet citrus fruits. Followed by a bit more pine lemon hops. I really like this. Bit of a bitter dry finish, mouth watering for more. I WANT MORE! CHEERS TO OHIODAD! brewblackhole (1366), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Aug 27, 2005 Updated: Nov 16, 20072nd rating, much different then the first one I had, much more hop intense, but with enough malt backing tht its not quite an IPA. Bumped it up about 5 points
