Often referred to as Burning River Pale Ale’s big brother, this stock ale is remarkably balanced for such a highly hopped beer. A rich deep blood red color makes this beer scary enough to be served every Halloween and a few other times of the year.

Very impressive imperial red. Caramel candied apple, cherry toffee, and warm caramel notes. Can get a bit medicinal as it warms. Worth keeping an eye out for.

Biscuity and heavy. English style hop profile. Bitter floral hops. Drinks not too much unlike a strong esb.

Dated 12/1/13. Poured 12/25/13 Christmas night. Thanks bmmillsy! Pour is deep red maroon tinted. Little lacing. Nose is sweet, resin, malt. Very good. I prefer this style to typical ipas. Medium light mouth.

Best by: 12/30/10 Poured to NB globe. A: candied cherry ale with superb clarity. Little to no head formation with little residual surface bubbles. Decent lacing. Good looker. S: Nice and malty. Caramel, tea, pekoe, slight woodiness, herbal hops. Toffee background. Very nice. Hints of maple. T: bitter malts. Plenty of hops to balance out the high grain bill. Again, a hint of wood. Almost has a oak barrel flavor to it. No yeast character to me at all, wish there was in order to help accentuate the straitforwardness of the beer. This tastes like an old stock, which is good, but not great as far as old stocks go. Quite bitter. M: Medium body, medium carbonation. Slightest slick left on tongue. D: Drinkable, a bit too heavy on the early, bittering hops, but overall a decent old stock. Needs a hint more residual sugar IMO. Serving type: bottle 02-14-2011

Draft from 69 Taps in Akron, OH. American pint glass. Deep reddish-amber pour with a two finger off-white head. Head didn’t last long and left some nice sporadic lacing throughout. Aroma of nuts, hops, pine, roasted malts, and toffee. The taste was similar with a healthy dose of malts and hops that were well balanced. Smooth to drink as the carbonation was lower. Finish was nutty, toasty and slight bitter hops. Overall one of my long-time favs from GL Brewery.

Bottle under a month old, poured into snifter glass. Ruby amber color with creamy tan head. Aroma of heavy caramel malt, kind of doughy with light citrus hop notes. Taste is sweet caramel malt, bready, slight chocolate, kind of earthy with some piney hop notes. Heavy body, low carbonation, malty, syrupy, soft, smooth with slight bitter hop finish. Nice well balanced imperial red.

Bottle via Archer Liquors, Chicago....pours a ruby amber red color with a small java head. Nose is sweet, fruity with notes of caramel. Taste is sweet with caramel and some citrus notes, predominately pineapple. Mad good. Finishes on the same fruity sweet notes. Quaff Score 8 / 10

Pours a nice ruby red with a light tan head and sweet aroma of hops, fruits, and caramel. Taste is well balanced and pleasant, nice fruity, hop and tropical fruit notes with caramel and toasted malt leading to a dry, bitter finish. Very drinkable and enjoyable ale

Draft at the pour house. Pours clear amber with a medium sized white head. The aroma is big resinous hops and caramel malt. The taste has about nice bitterness, some sweet caramel, and some earthiness. Nice brew.

Pours a nice copper with a creamy off white head. Aroma is doughy rye and light citrus. Taste is sweet malt underlined by a mild and pleasant bitterness. Alcohol is barely detectable and everything blends together really well. A little on the thin side and mildly carbonated. Overall a really well put together American ale. Not my favorite but still quite good. As usual Great Lakes remains a solid choice.
