3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma: Moderate/Strong grapefruit/pine hops with a fairly notable toffee/nougat malt presence; basically, it smells like a full-malt IPA. Appearance: The power of suggestion- sanguine red; nearly still body with a bubbly tan head. Flavor: Malts are a little more bready and semi-sweet; hops are more intense toward the finish, but do not dominate the end game, which is more malt driven with some lingering citrus fruitiness. The booze does not hide, but it is not obtrusive, either. Palate: Medium body, creamy/oily texture, soft carbonation, bittersweet finish. Overall: A very nice fall seasonal; like a marriage between an Oktoberfest and an IPA.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Best by 11/14/2013. Pours our a blood red color with tan head. Smells like tangerines (blood oranges?), grapefruit and pine with some sweet malts. Tastes like more of the same, sweet up front with citrus and some slight tropical fruits. Some alcohol warming, perfect for cooler days of fall. Wish I could still find it for a cold Halloween eve. Mouthfeel is rich and full. Overall a wonderful hoppy stock ale that I look forward to every early fall.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours dark red with medium off-white head. Aroma is sweet malt and juicy hops. Taste is sweet caramel style malt upfront that fades into nice citrusy hops on the follow through. Aftertaste is lingering floral and citrus hops with a touch of malt sweetness. Palate is medium and somewhat sticky. Overall excellent balance with sweet malt and bitter juicy hops playing back and forth nicely.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle (12 oz). From northropfrye, thanks! Clear amber with a small off-white head and little lacing. Aroma is of caramel, earthy notes, boozy, mineral... quite harsh. Taste is overly sweet (cloying) with booze, caramel, earthy/mineral notes and hints of soap. Medium to full body. Moderate carbonation. Sticky mouthfeel. Harsh. Not complex. Too sweet. Drain pour.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
THOUGHTS: A little harsh, actually. It didn’t do a great job disguising the alcohol content. I prefer more malty red ales.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, dark, slightly reddish, amber with a small, off-white head that mostly diminished and left virtually no lacing. The aroma contained moderate to heavy; grain and caramel malts; hints of chocolate; and moderate perfume, pine, citrus and earth hops. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and lightly bitter; while the finish was heavily sweet and moderate to heavily bitter with a long duration. There was caramel malt, lemon hops, grain, pine hops, perfume hops and rye. The medium body was a little syrupy and then very dry with fizzy carbonation and a light to moderately alcoholic finish.
