COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Often referred to as Burning River Pale Ale’s big brother, this stock ale is remarkably balanced for such a highly hopped beer. A rich deep blood red color makes this beer scary enough to be served every Halloween and a few other times of the year.

dark, but sparkling clear, copper color. spicy/earthy hops on the nose, taste: bitter and floral hops, saltiness, a little bit of malty sweetness. palate: thin body, average carbo, bitter and long lasting finish. is this the ’bite’?

Draught at Al’s Bar. Malty. Hoppy. Big taste for red ale. For whatever reason, unrated, or never head. Very tasty.

On tap slightly red tinged amber with medium off white head, very clear lovely looking. Taste is slightly hopped with some subtle malt coming through the finish. Not at all overly hopped as others here seem to have experienced. Certainly well worth a try.

12 ounce bottle. Deep reddish brown color. Small creamy beige head. Rich toasted malt nose. Hints of dried fruit and earthy, resinous hops. First sip brings bittersweet toasted malt and lot’s of spicy, peppery hops. Make no mistake, this is a real hop bomb. Notes of vanilla, raisins and roasted nuts come to mind. Finishes dry and bitter. A big brew with a serious bite.

Rich and hoppy. This was a great brew that I will buy again. Well balanced.

Highly hopped? Um, not in the flavor, nor the nose. I found this beer to be on highly disappointing. Dry finish, muddled hop/malt flavor. I expect better from Great Lakes.

Bottle (enjoy by 12/10/13). Nose of deep earthen caramel and pine/woodsy hops, slightly pungent if not catty, pours very dark red with a soapy beige head. Taste in the mouth mostly dry, the hop-edges are dulled, some booze shines through in its heft, bitterness is mild, faint citrus under the lightly doughy, earthen caramel. Very full body. Balanced, yes, but it’s hard for me to get excited about these big red when the overall effect is something akin to a two year old IIPA.

From bottle. This is a very well balanced beer. Hops were subtle, bitterness mild and maltiness fair. Very drinkable and enjoyable.

Pours a clear dark ruby-amber with a caramel colored head. Toasty toffee, ripe red fruit, and grassy hop. Cottony, filling mouthfeel. The flavors reflect the nose and are well-blended.
