| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 7, 2004 Unfiltered orange copper. Fat, creamy head settles to a puttylike fluff which sticks all over the glass. Soft, flowery hop scents with hints of orange zest, peach, soap, and apricot. Restrained mineral, caramel, and bready malt notes. Creamy, lightly fuzzy carbonation. Moderate sweetness commences with rich apricot hoppines meshing into a rounded malt body and progressively rich citrus flavor. Touch of acidity cushions the resinous sweetness, giving way to perfume and a slightly astringent, Munich-like twang. Cakey body with substantial glazed malt girth exuding more as it warms, lending an adequate backdrop to the resinous hops and grapefruit pungency. Pine accentuates the sweetness. Fairly under-attenuated finish, mostly dominated by persistent honeyed citrus rind and developing rich malt sweetness splashed with peppered cantaloupe and pine. Spice-tinged hop residue coats the palate and lingers well beyond the swallow, continuing to numb the palate. Nicely done, but it does little to separate itself from the plethora of other hoppy beers in its class with its boring, redundant, hop character. vyvvy (2069), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 11, 2006 A cause for celebration when this is released, one of my favorites. Pours a beautiful dark amber / bronze with a good sized tan head that does a very nice job of lacing the glass. The aroma has dark fruit and lots of floral hops and citrus hops that blend grapefruit and pineapples. There is a cane sugar like sweetness. Medium to full bodied with a slick resiny feel and a good deal of moderate intensity carbonation. Taste has lots of tropical-esque citrus, dark roasted mlat and some piney woody hops. Very full flavored beer. The finish has lots of grapefruit hops and and plenty of the initial flavor. An incredibly balanced hearty beer that I hope to experience many times this fall. cheapdark (2050), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA
| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 6/20 | Dec 27, 2006 my first american strong ale. Had this on tap at the Bocktown Bar in Robinson Twp. Has the aroma of sweet hoppyness. Pours brown crean soda - not too dark. Did not see too much red! Pretty hoppy taste impact with hints of orange or grapefruit citrus. Has an imposing personality about it. You can tell there are lots of hops in there. Finish is as astringent linger that lasts and lasts. Too much for me. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 4, 2009 I am amazed that I had not rated this one sooner for I have had it several times over the years. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a ruby-hickory color with a large beige head. The aroma was caramel, sour nutty malts and light fruity hops. The flavor had strong fruity and light floral hops with a nutty hop base and a lightly sour and bitter long fruity hop finish. Fairly full bodied. Nice. SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 3, 2004 Rich shining clear copper color with a dense, coating, off white head.
Caramel malt in the aroma that repeats in the flavor. Starts sweet then becomes bitter on the tongue. Very nice.
Highly carbonated, acidic start that quickly becomes malty caramel then turning bitter, finishing dry. Where’s the 8% abv?? Indra (2041), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 29, 2004 Fruity, spicy, citric hop aroma, some toasty caramel malt sweetness beneath with notes of pineapple, grapefruit and flowers. Clear reddish amber color with a fine, creamy off-white head and attractively delicate lace. Flavor profile is fruity and hoppy, copious amounts of juicy citrus and sugary malt sweetness throughout with a strongly bitter, piney hop finish. Creamy palate, body is medium-full. Indeed like an Imperial ESB or Pale Ale. Flavorful and quite tasty, not to mention easy to drink. Thanks, Jay! bitbucket (2036), Kirkland, Washington, USA
