Sep 23, 2008 Bottle from Whole Foods. Pour is a deep red-copper. The nose is strong and piney, with a nice resin kick in there. Smells pretty damn awwesome. Quickly disappearing Yellow head. Very big and abrasive hop kick, I can see the similarities to Burning River, though this is way better. Nice heavy bitterness with a good malt compliment that is not too much caramel malt, which I typically do not like. This is a damn fine beer that I could drink all year. Excellent.

Sep 1, 2005 A spicey floral aroma is present and the color is a medium golden brown. The taste of hops is present from the beginning and remains so throughout.

Nov 2, 2008 Crushed with Honkeybra. F.W. Murnau kicks ass. That being said: beer’s aight. Weird malt profile. It hangs out in your nostrils and makes a booger that you want to save and eat later on. Thin body, and a weird and pretty funky flavor. A bizarre beer.

Nov 17, 2008 12oz bottle, courtesy of my cousin and his wife. Dark copper pour, off white head. Suprisingly malty with a little hoppiness.A good amount of bitterness in the flavor though. Nice beer.

Nov 2, 2008 this bottle had some age to it so the hops were subdued. pours out a dark reddish brown color with a smaller head. aroma was malty and sweet. the flavor was sweet as well with a malt and slight hop note in the finish.

Oct 28, 2006 Updated: Oct 29, 200612 oz bottle via cewldre (thanks!). Pours are clear dark reddish brown with an average sized beige head. Aroma is both fruity and herbal. Nuts, lemoms, bourbon and vanilla are predominant. Taste is the same and add in some citrusy/piney hops and chocolate malts for a nice balanced finish. Much hoppier than you would expect for a winter beer. I am plesantly surprised. i do not usually like the so-called ’Winter Beers’, but this is very tastey!

Sep 12, 2004 Good looking beer, ice red bubbling color, with an inch or so of creamy foam on top. Simple malty smell, nothing too special, kind of grassy. The flavor is intially a sweeter hops feel, then it mellows out in a smooth nutty feel. I must say, this is probably my favorite great lakes offering, as it holds a great balance, and is drinkably strong.

Nov 1, 2005 ruddy copper color, thick creamy light tan head. malty sweet syrupy aroma, flavor is malty and a little bourbon. nice carbonation, hoppy in the finish. thanks Lou for bringing this to the devil’s night seance!
