COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Often referred to as Burning River Pale Ale’s big brother, this stock ale is remarkably balanced for such a highly hopped beer. A rich deep blood red color makes this beer scary enough to be served every Halloween and a few other times of the year.

Amazing red ale with a healthy serving of hops and fizz. Awesome label on the bottle, too. A real treat.

Pours a rich reddish brown and clear in light with a bubbly yellowed tan head that slowly fades from a finger or two. Decent lacing. Aroma is wonderful: sweet caramel and sticky resiny citrus. Active mouthfeel; more wet than dry. Very well-hopped but excellent balance on the palate. Oaky/grainy into a semi-sweet caramel and then strong and lasting hopped bitterness. That bitterness lingers and dominates the aftertaste. Not as many citrus characteristics to taste. Warming. A winner - especially for the style.

Bottle: Murky copper & burnt amber with a khaki colored head that recedes quickly & leaves very mild spots of lacing along the glass. Sweet, malty aroma alongside a decent handful of hops. Notes of toasted caramel, nuts, toffee candy, floral white pepper, light herbs, & a touch of cocoa powder. Sweet flavor of caramel, toffee, grape, plum, & other various dark fruits. Malt heavy, as expected. Toasted bread, sweet & buttery almost with dark brown sugar & molasses flavors growing with time. Booze soaked dark fruit finish, almost like a mini barley wine. Hops are still present in the form of floral, bitter citrus peel, even giving off very mild notes of apricot, orange, & grapefruit. Floral, peppery warmth in the finish with some boozy, caramel coated raisins covering the palate.

Bottle - pours medium amber with thick head. Nose of hop, grain, and booze. Taste is a nice balance of strong hop and malt. Some caramel and booze notes. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From bottle. Deep amber color. Aroma is roasted malt, dark caramel, tart citrus. Taste is a great blend of sweet caramel malt and tart grapefruit, orange, and light bitterness. A bit of a hop bomb but also a malty sweet beer, with a lot of balance.

Poured from bottle. Aroma of malt, hops and brown sugar. Copper / mahogany color with lacing head. Nice balance of sweet malt, and citrus and piney hops. Another great beer from GLBC.

I like this better as it warms a bit. It has a sweetness in the malts and then a hop bitterness. Slightly citrusy and a bit of pine, but one style of hops does not seem to overpower the other. Pretty balanced. Goes with a lot of the cooking I do, or as a solo beer. I remember loving this one and always searching for it. Now my tastes have expanded and it is not as good as remembered. Having said that, it is still one I consider a very good beer.

Tap at lake and Irving. Tulip glass. Mahogany color with thick head and great lacing. Sugar aroma. Malty and slightly bitter. Good depth of flavor. Cloying and piney, but not inappropriately so. Has some oktoberfest elements. Good fall beer.

Tap at Lake & Irving in a tulip glass. Deep amber hue with impressive lacing. Sweet aroma with a sugar, caramel essence. Really enjoyable smell giving way to a malt-laced, sweet influenced, hop infused delicious beer. Some hop bitterness at the very end. Reminds me of the sugary Belgian ales I’ve sampled. A pleasant surprise with a credit due to commonshawn for the recommendation/push.

On tap. Pours deep clear red amber into a tulip glass. 3/4 inch head is barely dissipating. Subtle hoppy aroma, taste is amazingly balanced and smooth, just bitter enough. Surprising light mouthfeel for a strong brew.

"Not too many reviews from the Spring since this is a fall release. I’m impressed enough to leave this on my wish list in hopes of trading for a super fresh one next fall. The one I’m drinkin is 18 weeks old, which I was very apprehensive about due to the style (imperial red). Turns out, it’s really nice 4+ months old, and I imagine fanfreakintastic fresh. The pine centric bitter hops are still very pleasant, but have obviously faded. Colored like a dark oktofest or Irish red. The malts used are complex and very pleasant. This brew smells md tastes fruity, almost berry like, with caramel, biscuit and a distinct nuttiness that all go well with the hops. Another winner from a top brewery. Pretty mix what I was hoping for...even more impressive given the date. Trade via Heybeerman. Thanks, bro."
