Commercial Description:
Often referred to as Burning River Pale Ale's big brother, this stock ale is remarkably balanced for such a highly hopped beer. A rich deep blood red color makes this beer scary enough to be served every Halloween and a few other times of the year.

The beer disinherits the 12-ounce brown bottle and adopts my glass a luminous copper color with a planetary sized head that is light tan in color and semi-creamy in texture and after its slow demise the lace left over forms a thick sealing blanket upon the glass. Nose has a sweet malt aroma, hints of yeast and maybe some hops, crisp and clean to the senses, start is sweet and rich in malt, the top moderate in its feel to the palate. Finish is light to medium in acidity, the hops potent in their spiciness, also a hint of alcohol bitterness in the dry long lasting aftertaste, a belly warmer and a very nice beer for a fall afternoon when the works day is done.

Solid amber hue with a healthy head. Juicy beer. Sweet, toasty malts. Forest-like hops, with a nice nip of citrus. Nice body; nice balance. Alcohol is hidden fairly well, though it come up with a dryish, nuttiness. Overall, really good beer. Goes down easy with big notice.

Beer pours bright red amber color with a partially retained beige colored head that leaves lacing on the glass. Aroma is spicy, hoppy, caramel, and grapefruit. The flavor is sweet caramel, fresh pineapple and hop bitterness. Very nice interplay between the malty goodness and the sharp, cutting hoppiness. Finish is hoppy spicey. Would love to drink more of this. Mouthfeel is solid and beer sticks to lips during comsumpiton.

This is great stuff -- of course -- it’s Great Lakes ! The malt/hop balance is perfect for me -- I would not call it Burning River’s big brother, however. This beer is in an altogether different league.

Non hop lovers need not apply. This is a hop lover’s dream. It is a beautiful reddish amber color. Quite pretty. I generally don’t like highly hopped beers (IPA’s and the ilk) but I really appreciated this. This is one of the hoppiest beers I’ve had but it wasn’t overwhelming.

12 oz bottle from Bello Vino in Ann Arbor, MI. Clear dark copper-bronze, moderate glossy off-white head, lasting...lots of woody/herbal character in the nose, caramel and vanilla...luscious fruits hit the tongue, strawberries and citrus, in the center it verges on I-swear-to-God my favorite pie raisin cream and then it descends into a rough earthy bitterness, dried grapefruit with the sugar removed...beautiful mouthfeel...nice, very very nice.

This is a very pretty beer. Deep amber in color with a crimson hue, plus a thick, slightly rocky head. Almost breathtaking. Fairly muted aroma, but as it warms the orange citric hops with sweet maltiness show their faces. Lovely and tingly on the tongue. Rich and full figured, this baby packs a malty wallop with a strong dose of grapefruity hops. Slight alcohol at the finish. If you want a buzz, this could be your beer. Thanks to bkelley for the sample.

Bottle from Archer Liquors. Pours dark ruby copper with a one finger fine beige head. Lots of grassy/floral hop over rather roasted malt for aroma. Near full bodied with creamy carbonation. Flavor is lots of roast malt with lots of hop. It’s a confusing mix of hop. It’s bitter. It’s floral. It’s grassy. It’s other things. Including absolutely delicious. Absolutely.
