FROTHINGSLOSH (5530) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 10, 2013
Sampled on draft at the House of 1000 beers this beer poured a black color with a small foamy beige head that faded quickly and left minimal lacing. The aroma was dry, bitter, woody and a touch roasty. The flavor was dry, bitter, very woody, a touch sour and roasty. Long bitter and woody finish. Light to medium body. Blah.

On tap at Milltown. Fine session stout. Definitely a ton of roasts in the nose, along with rich chocolate. Body is nicely substantive, thick and chewy as befits the style. Slightly dirty, dry finish also works for me. Tastes are far less single-minded than you’d expect for such a toasty beast, with some dark fruits, nice milky notes, and the like. Well made stuff.

Draft at Harrison Road House. Deep brown with a dark tan head. Huge smokey and malt aromas. I taste a little chocolate and coffee but it it completely dominated by the smokiness. Smooth mouthfeel.

Poured from draft at Sheffields. Black with tan head. Sweet and creamy earthy taste. Very good beer for having low ABV. Impressed and want more.

Pint at Tyler’s Apex. Good aroma. Sweet . Roasty. Dairy that I associate with oat. Dark reddish brown color. Small head faded quick. no lace. Sweet flavor. Lighter body. Smooth mouthfeel, roasty finish. Tasty easy drinking. Oaty.

Draft at Revolution. Pours a brown color with amber highlights and a small tan head. Coffee, oats, toast, and chocolate are all present in the aroma and flavor, but the nose also has an odd gamey character to it. That really threw me off. Super light in body, with low carbonation and a thin but roasty mouthfeel. A little disappointing, though not bad.

Location/Date:Draft on April 27th, 2013 at The Bier Baron.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown.
Aroma: Aroma of light roasted malt.
Taste: Light roast, faint caramel, light bitterness.
Palate:Medium body, smooth with a good amount of body.

Summary: Always up for trying more Great Lakes beers, especially ones not bottled. This was a solid oatmeal stout, nice amount of flavor for the abv, really nice mouth-feel.
