TINOZACCA (146), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Oct 17, 2005 This beer is outrageously potent. GLBC teamed with Jim Beam bourbon to complete this beer. It is a mixture of barrel aged Great Lakes Black-out Stout and Jim Beam Black label. Which explains the 10.0%ABV. The beer is so strong it was served in a large 12 oz snifter glass. GLBC introduced the beer at a tasting night which I missed due to work. But I had it on tap the next day in the brew pub. The color is very very nice and dark. The head was fluffy and airy, but thick. I took my first whiff and almost passed out. The aroma was so strong. The bourbon is very prevelant. I took my first gulp and the alcohol hit me hard. I could feel the alcohol immediately. But the flavor is very very good. It took a few sips to get used to, but the strong hops and malt of the stout, go great with the smoothness of 100 proff Jim Beam Black.
juiceisloose (310), Orlando, Florida, USA Jan 17, 2008 Growler, courtesy of crizay. Poured a hazy brown color with a small white head that dissipates quickly. The aroma practically jumps out at you with this one of full on jim beam bourbon. I get some subtle notes of sweet malts, caramel, and vanilla as well. The flavor is full on bourbon as well with some caramel and vanilla blended in. The bourbon is there all the way through, but not over the top though. The alcohol leaves a nice warming feeling all the way down on this one. This is medium-full bodied with a smooth, creamy mouthfeel with a nice bourbony finish. Thanks Chris for bringing this one to the throw down. Beerlando (1271), Orlando, Florida, USA Dec 17, 2007 Growler, courtesy crizay. I love whiskey, and I loved this beer. You’d have to be a whiskey head to like it, as it is by far the dominant component from start to finish. The pour is a murky, dark reddish-brown. A small, bubbly, off-white head dissipates quickly, leaving minimal spots of lacing behind. The whiskey aroma practically explodes from the glass, clearing the path for more subtle scents like caramel, nougat, cola and vanilla to follow. The flavor is the mirror image of the nose. Bourbon again shoves its way through, while the creamy caramel malts and vanilla do their best to catch up, with good success. Medium-full bodied and smooth with a killer, warming finish. This is an awesome brew. I wish it was bottled so I could save some for later. mcbackus (640), Merritt Island, Florida, USA Dec 15, 2007 growler courtesy of crizay: pours a dirty caramel brown and no head. aroma is very oak and bourbon slight caramel malt and a little burnt sugar. small amount of spice. flavour is also very oaked and bourbon.sllight caramel and getting a little alcohol in the finish. very sticky palate, very nice. hopscotch (4485), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Dec 10, 2007 Growler… O-Town Throwdown Part Tres… This beer rocks!… Murky, caramel-colored ale with a small, fizzy, white head. No retention. The aroma is a malty, earthen marriage of tangy sourmash, oak, vanilla, toffee and caramel. Big, sweet, boozy, bourbon, caramel and malted grain flavor. Full-bodied and syrupy with prickly carbonation. Finishes sticky-sweet, bourbony and woodsy. Cheers to crizay for transporting and sharing his growler of this wonderful bourbon barrel-aged beer! crizay (1070), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA Dec 6, 2007 Pours a dark mahogany with small cream head. Aroma is sweet with vanilla notes, oak, and you guessed it bourbon. Flavor is pretty sweet and sugary with light caramel, vanilla and lots of bourbon. The bourbon is pretty solid and is sweet but it does allow the other subtle flavors of the strong ale to come through. I’d say it’s very balanced with a thick mouthfeel and sweet smooth finish and the bourbon is never too much.
