Poured a dark brown/ruby red color. Aroma was of lots of chocolate and caramel. Taste was also nice and sweet chocolate, caramel and some nuts. Pretty good.

In short: A very nice earthy Bock. Very drinkable
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Clear light amber body with a medium beige head
In long: Pleasant nose of earthy toasted malts. Taste continues in that direction with earthy notes, crusty bread, light caramel and toffee, plenty of leafy hops. An overall impression of autumnal dry tree leaves. Body and carbonation are smooth. No alcohol apparent. Dangerously highly drinkable. Very filling and nourishing, the body is almost as rich as the family it is named after.

Draft at BMRAF 08. Poured brown color with an average frothy white head that mostly diminished with fair lacing. Moderate to heavy caramel & fruit aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations were met.

Firkin version at Barley’s 6th Annual Mini RAF (04/26/08): This brew pours a dark brown color with garnet around the edges and a medium thin beige head that dissipates quickly. Spotty lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, sweet caramel and a bit of dark fruit. Medium, smooth body with flavors of bready malt, dark chocolate and raisins. The finish is a little thin with a short malt and toffee finish. Above average overall.

A nice dark color and aroma was very mild, but almost no head at all. Taste was sweet at first but with a very dry finish. A disappointing bock given the other fine Great Lakes beers.
