COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Customers have spoken and GLBC has listened! On Thursday, December 17, 2009 (the 106th anniversary of the first fixed-wing flight), GLBC’s Brewpub will release The Wright Pils, a classic pilsner style beer with a flowery bouquet and elegantly dry finish. Named after the brothers Wright who built the world’s first successful controlled airplane, this pilsner, like these local heroes, has all the Wright stuff! In early 2010, expect to see The Wright Pils in 6-packs in the GLBC Gift Shop, as well as on draft in Concourse C at Cleveland Hopkins Airport! TYPE/STYLE: Pilsner. Until the 1840s, most Bohemian (now Czech Republic) beers were top-fermented, dark and cloudy, although Bavarian brewers had begun experimenting through "lagering" beer in cool caves using bottom-fermenting yeasts, which improved the beer’s clarity, flavor, and shelf-life. The Burgess Brewery recruited the Bavarian brewer Josef Groll who, using new techniques and the newly available paler malts, created the first batch of modern pilsener on October 5, 1842. The combination of pale color from the new malts (aided by the Bohemian city of Plzen’s remarkably soft water), noble hops and Bavarian-style lagering produced a clear, golden beer which caused a sensation. Improving transport and communications also meant that this new beer was quickly available throughout Central Europe, and its style was soon widely imitated. FOOD COMPLEMENTS: Works well as an aperitif and with salads, salmon, tuna and marbled meats

My first sip in over 3 years of this former pub only brew is a revelation. Straw yellow capped by a white head with good retention. Bready nose with ample flowery hop aroma. Taste is much of the same with a crisp cleansing bitterness level. Quite a fantastic beer, glad glbc made this a seasonal beer they bottled and shipped. My next request: independence ale. Thank you.

Transfer from BA review on 8-4-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – Pours a crystal clear golden color with a one finger white head and tons of little carbonation bubbles streaming up through the brew. The head has a decent retention fading over about a 3 min time period to leave a lighter level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a bready and grainy smell mixed with some lighter hop smells. The hop are mainly of a grassy and herbal smell, which overall when mixed with a light fruity smell produce a nice crisp aroma overall. Taste – The taste begins with a bready and malty flavor with a lighter fruit taste of lemon and apple. As the taste advances, hop flavors and a bit more fruit come to the tongue. The fruit are largely of the same nature that they were upfront, with the lemon getting stronger in flavor. The hop flavors that come to the tongue more toward the middle are of a grassy and earthy nature. These grow stronger to the end, combining with the malty and lightly fruity tastes to leave a crisper and slightly more bitter hopped flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thinner side with a carbonation level that is average to slightly above average. The slightly higher carbonation and slightly thinner body are rather nice for producing a crisp tasting beer and match well the combination of hop, sweet and malty flavors. Overall – A rather nice crisp and easy drinking yet nicely hopped pilsner.

Bread, floral hops, citrus, caramel, more malt than I expected and a faint taste of berries. Not a bad change of pace beer.

This is definitely a good choice when it comes to pilsner style, great feel like a pilsner should have, I could see this being a beer I drink multiple of in one sitting
