COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Customers have spoken and GLBC has listened! On Thursday, December 17, 2009 (the 106th anniversary of the first fixed-wing flight), GLBC’s Brewpub will release The Wright Pils, a classic pilsner style beer with a flowery bouquet and elegantly dry finish. Named after the brothers Wright who built the world’s first successful controlled airplane, this pilsner, like these local heroes, has all the Wright stuff! In early 2010, expect to see The Wright Pils in 6-packs in the GLBC Gift Shop, as well as on draft in Concourse C at Cleveland Hopkins Airport! TYPE/STYLE: Pilsner. Until the 1840s, most Bohemian (now Czech Republic) beers were top-fermented, dark and cloudy, although Bavarian brewers had begun experimenting through "lagering" beer in cool caves using bottom-fermenting yeasts, which improved the beer’s clarity, flavor, and shelf-life. The Burgess Brewery recruited the Bavarian brewer Josef Groll who, using new techniques and the newly available paler malts, created the first batch of modern pilsener on October 5, 1842. The combination of pale color from the new malts (aided by the Bohemian city of Plzen’s remarkably soft water), noble hops and Bavarian-style lagering produced a clear, golden beer which caused a sensation. Improving transport and communications also meant that this new beer was quickly available throughout Central Europe, and its style was soon widely imitated. FOOD COMPLEMENTS: Works well as an aperitif and with salads, salmon, tuna and marbled meats

Not much of a pilsner fan in general, but this isn't too abrasive to my tastes. Mild taste, not too sharp, but on point. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a light gold color with a medium lasting head. Lots of carbonation, a continuous stream of bubbles on all sides of the glass, very pleasant to look at, mesmerizing. A light grassy floral aroma with bread notes. Slight peppery taste, grassy. The finish is mildly acidic from the carbonation and lasting. Very pleasing on the palate and quite drinkable.

This draft brew from the brew pub poured a small sized head of foamy white colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a uncarbonated transparent yellow colored body. The mild aroma was malt hop. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The nice flavor contained notes of softly acidic hops and malt. A decent one that I would consider drinking again.

tmoreau (1625) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - JAN 9, 2013
12 oz. bottle poured to a shaker at Lunar Brewing Co., showing a clear, light golden color, a very modest amount of white head foam that quickly diminished to a thin ring & film, and didn’t offer much in the way of lacing. The nose was light grain, some distinctive Pils malt, light corn scent, and a little earthiness. Light to medium bodied, maybe just a hint of sweetness, but mainly dry, the carbonation was disappointedly on the soft side, and noble hop bitterness was moderate and mildly earthy. Crisp & clean. An okay German Pils.

Pale straw in color with a white head. Cereal malts and doughy yeast. Almost like cake batter on the nose. Lightly sweet with a nice bitterness for a pilsner. Not bad.

Location: Bottle shared by jcos, 10/19/12

Aroma: The nose a little grainy, some spice, and a little grassy and floral hops
Appearance: it pours a hazes golden-yellow, with a white head and drippy lace
Flavor: The taste is light-medium sweet, it is decently spicy, and has a crisp hoppy bitterness to it
Palate: It has a crisp, clean feel, a lightish body, average carbonation, and a lightly dry finish
Overall Impression: Very solid Pils with a nice hop presence to it and a clean Pils type of feel. Good example of style. Great Lake does a great job of making really good examples of some beer styles that don’t always tend to be all that exciting from other breweries.
