COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A German altbier with mild hoppy flavor and clean dry finish made with all organic ingredients. Thanks to GLBC’s Christine Bryant for the idea of naming this beer after a Cleveland invention!

Sample at Great Lakes on 1/21/13. Pours clear amber with a medium off-white head. Malty and caramelly nose with some bready notes and crisp hops. Malty and slightly caramelly flavor with a crisp hop finish.

If you’re a fan of pilseners or any German style beer, this Altbier offering from Great Lakes is right up your alley. My Dad particularly enjoyed it, and is a step in the right direction as I’m weaning him off American adjunct lagers. A nice honey/dark yellow colored colored pour with a thin head. All organic hops and yeast made for a particularly tasty altbier experience.

On draught at the brewpub. The beer is a clear light brownish-amber color with a medium thin light beige head that recedes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malt, grain and mild hops. Light to medium body with flavors of roasted malt, caramel and grassy hops. The finish is sweet with a malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Tap at glbc. Aroma of grainy caramel, coffee, and that typical doughy sugar presence common in organic beers. Clean, fresh herbal dough. Neat, well made beer, but not exactly my cup of tea.

Draft @ GLBC. Flavorful grainy/bready malt profile. Slight hops in the nose, but not as hoppy as I desire. An ok beer, but not my favorite style. refreshing but average.

Acetobacter (816) - Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 18, 2009
Enjoyed on tap at the brewery in pub glass. The beer pours a medium amber, with a slight white head. The nose is dominated by the floral aroma of German noble hops, leading one to hypothesize that this is the "North German" variant of altbier. The flavor begins slightly bitter, but gives way to a soft malty center and a very clean finish. In some ways the beer was almost similar to an APA. In any case, a well-done alt, and a good all-around beer.

medium to light brown with nice white head. german nobel hops to the nose with some initial bitterness that is moderate for the style followed by a good degree of floral noble hop flavor, some yeast character before a nice dry finish that is subtle but effectively malty leaving a nice toasty and sweet aftertaste. a nice version of the style, if not somewhat tame

This is one of those brews that you just want to order a pitcher of it for yourself and not to share. Copper with a short off white head, good lacing. Nice balance between the cookie toast bready malts and a pleasant spicy hop. On tap at the pub, 4/9/05 (I think this is the first time they’ve brewed this one)

Nice as just a normal everyday beer, not much to make it different than others, light copper color, sort of like a pale ale but not as bitter, not much else to say, just a normal beer.

Copper color with an off white head that left lacing on the top half of the glass. Toasty aromas with a touch of grassy, spicy hops. Mildly sweet flavor that has quite a bit of toasted wheat bread flavor going on also. Clean, crisp finish. Not as good as some other local alts, but still pretty tasty.
