3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 fiver29 (1015) - Cleveland, USA - FEB 21, 2008
Pours a very dark brown color with a light tan head. Head retention is medium and there is no lacing. Smells like a sweet candy-like brew that has a light mouthfeel. Tastes smooth and sweet like molasses. If this is what George Washington was drinking then he was drinking tasty beer.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 BVery (2557) - Burnsville, Minnesota, USA - MAR 1, 2012
Tap at the brewpub. Dark brown pour with a creamy head. Molasses and cocoa elements on nose and taste, but not too bold.

Tap, best beer of the night at Saint-Ex. Dark brown, almost black. Thick beige head that lingers, massive lacing. Aroma of milk chocolate. Flavor of cocoa, roasted coffee, smoky edge. Rich, but not over the top. More like a stout than a porter, but very tasty.

Sampled via 64-oz growler and shared by beerbeagle during Stub & Herbs March Tasting in Minneapolis, MN. Pours a clear cola brown brew with a thin beige head that quickly dissipates to a thin ring. Aroma of roasted dark malt, some coffee, flowery hops and a touch of brown sugar. Taste is medium bodied, flavors of toasted dark malt, caramel flowery hops, some coffee and a wee bit of chocolate. Finish is semi-sweet with a light chocolate and flower hop aftertaste that slowly disappears.

On tap @ GLBC. Pours a very dark brown with a small tan head. Very sweet, malty aroma, almost like maple syrup. Again, very sweet body, lots of honey, not quite smooth. Prefer Edmund Fitzgerald by far.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 sja14 (108) - Ohio, USA - FEB 21, 2009
Released on Presidents’ Day each year at the brewery. Pours dark brown with an off-white head. Flavor is of molasses and roasted malt. It is no Edmund Fitzgerald but a great porter nonetheless. Unique flavor..
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 notalush (3745) - Denver, Colorado, USA - FEB 21, 2008
Tap at the brewpub - dark brown, cola-looking beer, with a fast-fading head - given the fact that this was brewed with molasses, I expected a much higher sweetness - I was pleasantly surprised by the nice balance between a natural molasses sweetness and a strong roasted malt character - it seems a bit thin and one-dimensional, but I think they were going for quaffability rather than complexity, and in that respect the beer works - I would drink this again with the right meal, but by itself I probably wouldn’t revisit it.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Cliff (394) - Avon Lake, Ohio, USA - FEB 17, 2008
On tap, poured a deep brown, bordering black with a thin tan head. Not much in the aroma, a slight bit of burntness and a whisp of sweet malts. Flavor is sweet with a roasted malt backbone. It almost seens like they added some sort or artifical molasses flavor to ensure you could taste it. Quite thin on the palate with a sweet finish. Another OK pub exclusive from Great Lakes.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 sliffy (2036) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - FEB 14, 2008
On tap and the brewpub: Pours black with a loose tan head. Aroma, slight roasted character, some coffee, brown sugar, and caramel. Flavor, chocolate, molasses, some roasted coffee, and a bit of earthy bitterness on the finish.
