The Cinnamon Rock Ale is an amber ale brewed with Vietnamese cinnamon and Chinese rock candy. Made with 100% locally malted barley and 100% local Qingdao Flower hops from Xinjiang and Gansu, this all weather ale has been a crowd favorite since we hung our first shingle.

(Verkostung: 13.7.2016.)

Draft at GL. A little cinnamon enlivens this amber ale, some pleasant acidity also. Made with all Chinese ingredients. Good.

On draft at the original brewery. Copper pour, clear, with a slight white head. Some spice. Nice hop character in the nose and taste. Good balance of bitterness.

Keg at the brewpub. Almost clear pale amber, small head. Spicy nose with an interesting array of hard-to-describe components. Mid dry with medium body and clean mouthfeel. Dusty, fruity cinnamon, pears and sake. Mid bitter finish. Confusing, but certainly not bad.

Draft. Pours a cloudy light brownish red. Aroma is cinnamon. Taste is similar with the aroma and has spices as an aftertaste.

very hazy dark chestnut with lacing off-white head.medium bodied, fairly thin toasty malt character with plenty of cinnamon...dare i say one dimensional? does wat it says on the tin but a little dull for me.

I loved the cinnamon aroma of this, and the appearance. The taste didn’t live up to the aroma, but I still enjoyed it.

On tap at Great Leap Beijing. Wasn’t sure what to think of this one. Dark red/amber colour. Sweet cinnamon and cloves, notes of corn tortilla oddly enough. Interesting.

UPDATED: SEP 24, 2011 Draft @ brewpub. Red-orange, nicely cloudy and very bright with stable head. Quite attractive. Batches vary from pronounced to bright cinnamon, usually mellow and aromatic. Not like candy or toothpaste, just pure cinnamon stick nicely integrated with the rock sugar. The rock sugar adds balance more than overt sweetness, and the beer finishes off-dry and spicy, even astringent. Balanced, very soft, and nice.

Light amber colour. Hints of unidentifiable spices and light malts on the nose. Heavy cassia on the palate, though. In some batches it is stronger than others, but always seems a bit much for me. Clean and relatively dry for a Great Leap beer, despite some sweetness in the finish.
