2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Brown in color. This has a lasting head. It’s subtly foamy. This has quite a fragrant coffee, and chocolate aroma. No hops to smell of. Light on the tongue, but rich enough to provide a decent texture. An amalgam of coffee and chocolate all the way. This is borderline scotch ale, to me, but what the hell do I know? There’s nothing complicated here; it’s simply a nice drinking brew, with some hints of chocoalte and coffee. There’s nothing wrong with the beer, either, it’s just running on the line of insipid, and not unique in any way.

On tap. Deep red/brown with a tan top. Roasted malts and chocolate scent. Taste is the same with an earthy note.

kinda of an odd hoppy brown ale but it was a lager. Didn’t really jive on it, but not horrible.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pint at the brewery to finish the afternoon. Dark beer. Nice body and good roastiness; chocolate, whole wheat toast and a bit of dark fruit. A good winter pick me up.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle:   Deep brown, just about black, large foamy light beige head, nice lacing.   Faint weizen like
nose, soft burnt malts, a little pixie stix like aroma (the sweet side).   Hmmm, faint fruitiness, pale roasted
malts, a little barnish, airy.   Has a metalic sweetness on the backside.   A little tin like on the finish.
Decent malt base.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Finishes rusty, as in some iron or something, in
addition to the Tin I got halfway through.   Considering its almost the end of summer, and this being a Winter
beer, I dont doubt its a bit past its prime.   Decent beer for what its worth.   Just a little too much metal.
Lingering artificial sweetness too.   Meh...

12oz bottle. Has a light brown color, thin bubbly head, somewhat transparent. Aroma has hints of malts and coffee. Slight peanut flavor with hints of more coffee and malts. Very tasty to say the least.

Sampled at the brewery. Dark brown ruby. Aroma of roast caramel and dark fruit. Taste is like toasty bread. Smooth.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at the brewery. I love coming here, the sandwiches are great, the beer’s above average, and there’s an amazing (though unrelated) beer store literally directly behind the brewery. Anyway, this is a solid Winter Lager, big, full, nice spruce and clove notes, well balanced and surprisingly DRY! Dry! Joy! I hate how overly sweet so many winter beers are, but this just made a new friend in me. Well-balanced, rich, and nicely spiced. If it hadn’t already been my 3rd beer with lunch (try the BLT!), I’d have had another pint.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
1st beer poured in my new Unibroue glass - so far so good.
1/3 of the glass is filled with a thick creamy brown cap that once settled leaves a massive amount of ropy lacing. Brew is very very dark brown with dark red hues near bright light. The aroma is pretty plain and lacking strength which isn’t always bad but this is a bit too light. Mild chocolate & boiled vegetables and some mild form of hops - doesn’t sound that good, does it? It’s ok. The taste is where this excels. Chocolate, nicely and very well proportioned roasted malts, non-sweet cherry or black berry candy (background), good bitterness that is very bitter but not in any dominating quantities (almost an after thought). Great balance or at the very least a good smooth transition of flavours in large steps down in power. Smooth, very nice carbonation, seems to have a bit more body than a standard porter would. The finish could be a bit better but it is still nice. Another surprisingly good beer out of the Montana mystery 6 pack from my fat ugly German bro.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep mahogany brown, dense light brown head with decent retention and heavy lacing of the glass. Very chocolatey and rich roasty aroma with a hint of spice. The same flavours play out nicely on the palate with a moderately heavy mouthfeel and a mildly bitter finish, along with a gently earthy/minerally character. This is the best offering by the brewery, by a country mile in my opinion. and incidentally, I’m not sure how this got classified as a pale lager, but it certainly is not that!
