COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In honor of the huckleberries that grow wild throughout the Flathead Valley, we unveiled this summer brew in the spring of 1996. A combination of 75% Western pale malted barley, 25% malted wheat, Cascade hops and wild huckleberry juice from the Flathead Valley, were used to create this highly drinkable, thirst-quenching lager. A delightfully unique fruit beer, this pale summer brew combines the crisp, dry refreshment of a light lager with a subtle, tart hint of huckleberries that is neither sweet nor overpowering.

Lively carbonation -- fizzy and palate cleansing. Malts were dry, grainy and bready. Huckleberry flavors and aromas swarmed from start to finish, yet they weren’t too sweet or overbearing. Mild bitterness helped to balance things out. Pretty refreshing beer.

Bottle: Dusty gold pour with a thin creamy white head. Bubbly. Aroma is wheat, floral, and light huckleberry. Flavor is mild lager malt, huckleberry, and finished with wheat. Crisp. Really a pretty clean taste. More wheat than fruit.

Very light in color with no hint of blue makes me wonder if this is an extract berry. The aroma is lite, mostly sweet malt. The flavor has just a bit of the berry. Very nice and refreshing. Nice brew ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This is a unique, crisp wheat beer. I tried it as a novelty, because of the huckleberries. I really enjoyed it.

Funny story about a bear and the last time I went out to pick huckleberries to make jam...yadda, yadda, yadda...and that's why we call my dog "Grizzly Biscuit". (bottle, 01/03) Anyway, I'm sick of huckleberries and I get a gift of this stuff. It's been in the fridge for a couple months now. Looks quite pale, but bright and somewhat (surprisingly) opaque. Not a huge blast of huckleberry on the nose, but it's there. Taste is generally crisp, light, and with a grassy sweetness. Finish is tart, presumably from the huckleberry extract. Not bad stuff, but I'm still sick of huckleberries. Bonus points for it being a much more drinkable example of a style I don't really like.

Sampled at the brewery. Slightly hazy with a frothy white head. Aroma of jam and sweet malt. Taste is sweet berry and bread. Better than a lot of fruit beers but still pretty overly fruity for my taste. Medium body, smooth carbonation

This has all it's component elements perfectly interwoven - it's a lager and a wheat (wonderful sharpness, wheaty crisp lemony sourness) with great fruitiness (I also don't know much about huckleberries) - this is a great concoction and tied for my No. 1 fruit beer! Wonderfully hazy yellowish brown in the glass. Super drinkable. Thanks, Slikwily.

12 oz bottle. Berries and wheat aroma. Cloudy, pale yellow in appearance. Medium head which disspiates, leaving a thin collar of foam. Berries and wheat flavor. Good...makes me wonder, whatever happened to Black Star?!?!!

Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a lightly hazed golden amber color with a one finger head of white foam. The head fades very rapidly, leaving just a lighter level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer massive of a huckleberry and almost blueberry like smell. Along with these aromas comes some yeasty and wheaty smells as well as a little bit of a grainy and grassy smell. Taste – The taste begins with a decent sum of a wheaty taste which is matched by some yeast and a little bit of grain. While the huckleberry is lighter upfront, it quickly gets stronger and with it brings more and more sweetness. The huckleberry and sweetness maximize in the middle with the berry then remaining strong throughout the taste while the sweeter more sugary flavor fades ever so slightly. With a little bit of grass and a slight increase in the fruit due to some blueberry flavors coming to the tongue, one is left with a moderately sweet berry-wheat flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thinner side with a carbonation level that is rather high. For the low abv, fruit flavors, and wheat style of the brew the feel is great with it making for a very easy drinking and more refreshing brew. Overall – A somewhat sweeter and berried flavor brew that is still rather drinkable due to its lighter body and low abv. Not a bad summer style refresher, but nothing I would want all that often. One to at least give a go to for yourself to see if you like it or not.
