Cask handpump at The Turf Tavern, Oxford, 17-04-10 Pours amber with a white head. This is a tasty tangy beer with a medium bitterness, some maltiness and a steak of sweet citrus throughout. Had this in the company of many Morris men and women, a wonderful though tiring day of dance. A6 A4 F7 P4 Ov13 3.4

Cask handpull, The Malt Shovel, Northampton. Copper under a white film. Stewed tea, husky malt, nuts and citrus aroma. Dab of damp rabbit. Softer, less citrussy fruit again (moving backwards from Wots Occurring); peach, rose and orange perhaps. Bits of earth and ash. Unfussy shampoo dryness to finish again. Good but not quite Great; the earthiness does add a layer of complexity that gives it a slight edge over Wots Occurring and Gobble..

A Mes rate: cask handpull at the Pembury Tavern. Pale amber coloured with no head. Yes, I’m at the Pembury... Full on hop aroma. Absolutely glorious. Loads of citrus, even some faint lime, plus plenty of grassy notes too. Really aromatic. Flavour, bloody hell chaps, this is excellent. Absolutely stunning pale malt base with just the right level of sweetness topped off with lashings of grassy hops. Superb blend of earth and bitter in the finish. Nothing particularly outlandish, just a bloody excellent bitter.

UPDATED: JAN 14, 2011 Cask conditioned - handpump - Malt Shovel Northampton. A mid brown coloured bitter with a malty aroma which has hints of caramel and toffee. The taste is also predominantly malty. It is tasty and a bit chewy. Almost verging on an Irish Red in its style.Score 3.3 Subsequent ratings scored 3.2, 3.2 and 3.6. Score unchanged
