maeib (3816), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England May 4, 2008 Cask conditioned - handpump - Malt Shovel, Northampton. Described by the brewery as a black bitter, nd it’s certainly black, but I’m not sure about bitter. Full of coffee character in the aroma, and less so in the taste. Some caramel sweetness in the mouth. Great smell and nice taste but lacking body. Still good.

Classic dark mild appearance. Rich sweet roasty aroma. Chocolate powder. A bit watery in the mouth. Big estery taste, but not much finish. Mes_and_Sim (3927), London, Greater London, England Jul 10, 2008 A Mes rate: Gravicask at Ealing Beer Festival. Clear dark brown with a good off white head. Good roasted malt aroma with hints of fruit and a slight smokyness. A lovely sugary note in the flavour with some excellent roasty malt, really nice chocolate, slight liquorice and a good fruity chocolate finish. Quite dry. Rather tasty. harrisoni (4896), Ashford, Kent, Kent, England Jul 10, 2008 Cask gravity at Ealing BF 2008. Clear dark reddy brown, thin beige head. Eggy yeast. Some fruit, damson/cherry. Some good choc. Juicy and grainy. Slightly farty which puts me off, not that good and I think I poured some away. Doppelganger (1080), Oxford, Oxfordshire, England May 14, 2008 Gravity, Banbury Beer Festival. Deep caramel, small persistant tan bubbles. Definite parsnip aroma, very earthy and smoky. Simple clean roast flavor with a little earthy edge. A little lacking in depth, but still a pleasant beer. I’d agree with Glen--this seems like a mild to me. imdownthepub (3937), Banbury, Oxfordshire, Oxfordshire, England May 9, 2008 Cask conditioned at Banbury Beer Fest ’08. Black with tan head. Chocolate malts right from the start, tarry with a sweetish background fruitiness. There are hops in the body along with caramel. A good dark beer, more a mild than bitter I would suggest.
