2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Can, shared by me... in my dining room... just now.
Pours a lightly hazy blonde with a big fluffy white head and decent lacing on the glass.
The aroma is yeasty with lots of husky maltiness and a faintest whiff of chocolate.
The chocolate flavor is neat, decidedly forward but not overwhelming. The beer is never awfully sweet but the chocolate character hints more at a sweet than bitter chocolate. The beer has a little bit of harsh bitterness that seems derived from the malt more than anything. The malt is husky & the beer is a touch metallic.
Decidedly not bad tasting.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Can from 6 pack I brought back from the Quad Cities. Poured a lightly tinted, clear golden color with a small, fizzy off-white head. Aroma was mostly just light toasted malts, but as it warmed up from the fridge, there was an ever increasing note of chocolate (like cocoa powder) that I began to notice. Flavor was very light initially, but finish is a blast of light milk chocolate notes - a bit like melted Cadbury or something similar. Pretty easy to drink - not as crazy chocolate as I was expecting, but it was pretty enjoyable. I don’t know, I liked it at least.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at the brewery. Yellow and hazy appearance with a small white head. Aroma of dark chocolate, cocoa and sweet malts. Similar flavor, mildly sweet and lightly bitter. Smooth, rich and soft with a light to medium body. I remember this when they were still brewing in Iowa City.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Reviewed from notes. Consumed June 10, 2013 as I was driving across the country.
This one pours a slightly hazy golden yellow color ("dirty blonde" I guess, sure why not?) and leaves the same colored body. It has a one finger foamy white head that dies and leaves some nice lookin’ clingy lacing to the glass.
The smell has a toasty yet slightly roasty chocolate-ness that comes through slightly malty in the background
The taste is sweet all the way through, and then gets a bit stronger in the chocolate the more it goes down. It has a strong sweet chocolate aftertaste and a dry finish.
On the palate, it has a light to medium body and becomes somewhat sessionable with a slightly creamy edge to it. Carbonation is spot on for the style and for me.
Overall, this would be my first American Blonde Ale with chocolate in it. I once had DFH’s Theobrama and thought this would be similar and in a way, I guess I could kinda say it is without the spicy ancho chile flavoring. I would probably have this again.

2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Golden with extremely large off white head (infection?). Aroma of fruits and grain. Medium/light body with malt sweetness and some hop bitterness. Not much chocolate except the residue in the bottom of my glass. I expect a chocolate ale to have at least a hint of chocolate

Can. Pale gold pour with a monster white head. Some funky stale wheat and fake chocolate aroma. Thin palate. Hint of metal. Not very good.

12oz can. Light golden yellow until the syrupy black part came out at the end, making it hazier and darker. Pretty gross to see an additive that fully separates like that. Big, loud white head. Has some biting sour sharpness, another infected can from Great River...will be the last time I buy their product on the shelf. Gross perfume chemical aroma. Biting, sharp, aggressive body..no chocolate flavor. This beer is an absolute loser. I like the concept. The execution is terrible.

Like light lager with sour cherry chocolate blasting rather unsubtly through the middle. Tastes cheap and fake, not a fan.
