A Golden Ale brewed with dark, bittersweet chocolate. It has a balanced, malty sweetness, and decadent chocolate character with a nice dry finish.

On tap at the brewery. Yellow and hazy appearance with a small white head. Aroma of dark chocolate, cocoa and sweet malts. Similar flavor, mildly sweet and lightly bitter. Smooth, rich and soft with a light to medium body. I remember this when they were still brewing in Iowa City.

Reviewed from notes. Consumed June 10, 2013 as I was driving across the country. This one pours a slightly hazy golden yellow color ("dirty blonde" I guess, sure why not?) and leaves the same colored body. It has a one finger foamy white head that dies and leaves some nice lookin’ clingy lacing to the glass. The smell has a toasty yet slightly roasty chocolate-ness that comes through slightly malty in the background The taste is sweet all the way through, and then gets a bit stronger in the chocolate the more it goes down. It has a strong sweet chocolate aftertaste and a dry finish. On the palate, it has a light to medium body and becomes somewhat sessionable with a slightly creamy edge to it. Carbonation is spot on for the style and for me. Overall, this would be my first American Blonde Ale with chocolate in it. I once had DFH’s Theobrama and thought this would be similar and in a way, I guess I could kinda say it is without the spicy ancho chile flavoring. I would probably have this again.

Golden with extremely large off white head (infection?). Aroma of fruits and grain. Medium/light body with malt sweetness and some hop bitterness. Not much chocolate except the residue in the bottom of my glass. I expect a chocolate ale to have at least a hint of chocolate

Can. Pale gold pour with a monster white head. Some funky stale wheat and fake chocolate aroma. Thin palate. Hint of metal. Not very good.

pale yellow, slightly hazy, short-lived white head. nose is mild cocoa and frankly not a whole lot else. flavor is cocoa, bit of grass, with a very light touch of hoppiness in the aftertaste. not terribly interesting.

12oz can. Light golden yellow until the syrupy black part came out at the end, making it hazier and darker. Pretty gross to see an additive that fully separates like that. Big, loud white head. Has some biting sour sharpness, another infected can from Great River...will be the last time I buy their product on the shelf. Gross perfume chemical aroma. Biting, sharp, aggressive body..no chocolate flavor. This beer is an absolute loser. I like the concept. The execution is terrible.

Like light lager with sour cherry chocolate blasting rather unsubtly through the middle. Tastes cheap and fake, not a fan.

12 oz can. From Iowa. Thanks John M!
Cloudy pale golden colour with a small white head. The aroma is quite strange. There’s mild sourness, some sweetness, a touch of chocolate and... malt I guess. The flavour is rhubarb and some sweetness. Very messy and strange brew.

Poured from a can. Pour is hazy and light with white head, weird for a chocolate beer. Incredibly nice chocolate aroma and taste, wore me out a bit with how much chocolate there was by the end of the can. Really a cool beer, but 16oz was too much for me.
