COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We love our local roaster’s New Orleans Iced Coffee so much we decided to use their beans in our brew. Redband Stout is made with Indonesian and Ethiopian beans using our 18-hour cold brew extraction method, resulting in a satisfying brew with intense coffee aromatics. The marriage of two of our favorite beverages.

Black with a giant Indian brown head that is slowly but mostly diminishing. Great roasted coffee aroma with vanilla and malted milk creaminess. Coffee flavor is very profound. Lightly carbonated and a bit thin bodied, but I don’t necessarily think that is a bad thing as it helps give the sense that you are drinking an iced coffee. Dry herbal finish. Pretty darn tasty and a great coffee centric stout that doesn’t try to be more than it is.

Canned sample. Jet black in colour with moderate carbonation. Loads of espresso-like coffee aromatics, backed by notes of vanilla, milk chocolate, and a hint of fruit. Coffee domintates the flavour profile as well, specifically an acidic dark roast variety. There’s also some notes of malted milk, more vanilla, and a bit of ash. Fairly heavy on the palate, but the acidic coffee notes give it a bit of a lift. Fairly good overall, but maybe a bit too much of a good thing (the coffee).

Very nice and roasty.

16 oz. can from stevemastny- thanks again, Steve! Pours a mostly opaque coffee brown with a thick, slowly dissipating brown head. Very nice looking. Aroma of rich, roasty coffee, lots of chocolate, and some toasted nuts. The aroma weakens as it warms but was initially very nice. Flavor of coffee and dark chocolate, plus some molasses, rusty copper, overripe plums, and brown sugar. Got worse and fruitier as it warmed. Light-medium bodied, with medium-high carbonation and a metallic mouthfeel. A bit disappointing after so much initial promise.

16 ounce can thanks to Ed! Pours a wonderful jet black hue with a medium thick brown head. The aroma is heavy sweet coffee. A nice flavor of rich sweet coffee, light chalk, some dark fruit, pretty dry, quite drinkable. Nice.

Poured into a snifter. 4.0 A: Black color. Two and a half fingers of frothy/foamy tan head. Retention is very good for a coffee beer. 3.5 S: Rich roastiness in here. The coffee added must have a huge hand in this. Bittersweet chocolate and not overbearing amounts of coffee. 2.5 T: The strongest flavor in the taste is a tangy, somewhat acrid old coffee. It trumps the roastiness which is second. Hints of caramel and chocolate under that. It’s not horrible, but I’m not a fan. 4.0 M: Heavier medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Thick, viscous feeling without a lot of creaminess. Good here for a coffee beer. 3.0 D: The coffee really wasn’t well integrated into this one. If it was, I think I would have enjoyed it a lot. the best of both worlds! the coffee flavor in this beer is so strong almost overpowering but in a good way. good body not extreamly thick but still thick enough for a stout . has a good creamy texture apparent. anyone who loves coffee and beer has to try this!! best coffee beer i’ve had yet!

Poured from a 16oz can into an imperial pint glass: Pours a near pitch black, like a fresh cup of Kona with two to three fingers of big soft light brown head. Nice lacing. FRESH coffee, I’ve never experienced this from a beer but this coffee smells fresh from the grinder. Some caramel, milk chocolate, cocoa powder, subtle nut notes. They really nail the coffee flavors but I think it stuns the other nice stout characteristics. Really good for what it is though and that is a coffee beer. I can definitely see myself craving one of these in the future. Would be the perfect breakfast beer for camping. Feel is too thin in my opinion. It works fine but it could get beefed up a bit I think. Really solid offering from Great River Brewery. I look forward to trying their other stuff.

Deep dark pour with a dark brown head. Aroma is coffee and roasted malt. Taste is dry, well balanced between the stout and the coffee flavor. Dry lasting aftertaste. Low carbonation. Goes down to easy.
