   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 7/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 15/20

On tap at the brewpub: Gorgeous bright cinnamon tinted orange color with a smooth, dense topping of firmly thick off-white foam sitting about a finger high. Lacing sticks in many areas of the glass with lots of broken strings and spots. Aroma is fine and light with a clean snappy firmness of malt sweetness rendering honey, honeydew melon, flower oils, and some chamomile spice. Taste is nearly the same as the aroma would lead one to think how it would taste, which makes this drink a bit of a different take on a Red Ale with its light, softer approach of spice and malt. Soothingly clean, soft, and creamy with a mild broad snappy breath of malt. Honey flavors tend to take the overall mixeing with a bit of melon and pale citrusy tea notions. Faint but adequate hintings to floral spice and chamomile trace the middle and back end. Ends short and creamy with no real finishing qualities other then a wiff of sticky honey and very feathery floral notes. Body is lightish medium with a smooth, quite clean, and gently creamyness to it. Mildly snappy when first served then grows a duller malt sense as it warms allowing a bit more of the subtle spices to pull through. However, as good as it was and drinkable as it was, it was unimpressionable, and left me wanting more out of it n some way. What though, I couldn’t say. I think what the beer is after seems to hit pretty good once taken in, but it just doesn’t have much to say or do to the palate to make a full impression other then the addition of spice to a simple Red Ale recipe. A decent enough drinker for the hotter weather I suppose.

CaptainCougar (6835) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - NOV 18, 2007
On tap at the brewpub on 6/23/07: Transparent bright copper orange pour has a wispy-lacing white head. Aroma of lightly sweet pale malt with a hint of faintly piny hops. Body starts with a touch of caramel sugar and mild earthy bittering hops toward a watery, bland finish. A pretty average red at best.

Draft @ Brewpub: Copper color, nice head, light lacing. Nose of grass, hay and caramel malt. The flavor is nice, clean and hoppy. Finishes moderate bodied. Eh.

Sample from tap at the brewpub. Pours amber red to brown with a lacing light brown head. Aroma is malty, toffee, slight dry. Flavour is spicy (says egyptian chamomille), has caramel but remains dry. Honey provides softness to the dry notes. Ends dry and light spiced.
