Hands down the best beer they had.
This is not a brown though. It’s a porter, but a very good porter, chocolate, roasted malt, coffee. Dark Brown, Full body. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Aug 7, 2006 Semi-translucent and amber mahogany in color with an unresolved head resembling scattered cream of wheat. Chocolate and caramel goodness pipe out a profoundly rich nose. Creamy mocha beans and milky coffee coolers only further entice while being nurtured by cocoa dust over lightly toasted pecans & walnuts. Bigger flavored than the rest of this brewery’s offerings, striking a chord of almond butter and easily quaffed gooey turtle candy pieces. Eased carbonation lets the milk chocolate and expressive caramel draw out more spontaneity. Honey roasted and chocolate coated almonds bridge to the bigger bodied belly that is well balanced for what it is. It’s a brown done right, finishing with Hershey milk chocolate chips and brown sugar, along with a chocolate chip cookie sweet consistency and the classically gooey caramel center. MilkmanDan (1940), Eagan, Minnesota, USA Jun 17, 2005 Brownish-red. Good nose, peaty and rather porter-esque with its roasts, bit of wood smoke. Darn good flavor here, sweet malts, mildly spicy. Nicely smoky, rich with maple syrup sweetness. Some chocolate at the end. Good palate, sticky and syrupy, but not cloying. It doesn’t strike me as a particularly traditional brown ale, but it’s enjoyable for what it is. aceofhearts (1373), San Francisco, California, USA May 22, 2002 The description is pretty much dead-on, except that I found the nuttiness to be more assertive than a ’hint’. Quite smooth and drinkable. Very nice, this beer and this brewpub impress me. BückDich (4605), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 4, 2007 Draft @ Brewpub: Very dark brown, nice head and lacing. Nose of nutty sweet caramel and nutella, chewy sweet raisin and a bit of cocoa and smoke. Licorice and cheddar, nice robust brown ale, I like.
