COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a seasonal brew using a strain of trappist ale yeast. There are only 7 Trappist order breweries left in the world as of 2006. The flavor in this abbey ale has hints of raisin, caramelized sugar, and star anise. Dark and full bodied. Little hop profile. More malt, toffee and plum/raisin aromas.

Winterfest 2010. As Right-In-Two Dubbel, with an abv of 9.9 and ibu of 27. So kind of strong for a dubbel, but not different enough to be a new recipe. Malt of course, and no hop presence. Belgian yeast is clearly present. A true to style dubbel, except for the alcohol. Sweet with dried fruit.

Tap. Clear red brown pour. Thin white head. Aroma of yeast, mild fruit, and some sort of household cleaner. Taste is over carbonated, malt, hints of fruit. Just not very well done.

Backlog: Last beer sampled on draught during the Winterfest 2009 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Pours a semi-clear dark copper brown colored brew with a thick off-white head the quickly dissipates to a thin ring. Aroma of Belgian yeast, cotton candy, some chocolate, raisin, vanilla and some banana esters. Taste is full bodied, smooth, with very complex flavors of caramel, chocolate, candi sugar, banana esters, some clove, Christmas potpourri and a touch of raisin. Finish is semi-sweet fruity with a little alcohol warmth.

thought this one was a little off for some reason. enjoyed the sweetness and pleasant fruit aroma, just wasn’t expecting the hops bitterness or dry palate from a trappist.

Enjoyed at WInterfest 2007. Nice belgian candied aromas. Very enjoyable brew and surprising as most american’s attempts at abbey dubbels fail miserably. This one was an exception.

Great Waters just keeps on bringing the shitty Christmas presents that I have to bring back to the store. That’s a little harsh. This stuff is alright, aside from the fruitish uriney aroma which is obviously not appetizing. Flavors of candy sugar, chocolate, and raisin. Bland and a bit of a phony attempt at a trappist dubbel but it’s drinkable.

Hazy brown/red chestnut. Bubblegum/banana nose; good spiciness, hop finish. Soft, yet tingly carbonation. Very drinkable, quite appealing. (on tap at brewpub)

Dark mahogany color with a thick head that rapidly collapses into nothingness. Very light malt aroma. Taste is much more pronounced with dry malt, candi sugar and molasses. Lightly bittered finish.

Just had a sample of this from someone else that had ordered it. I have never had this style before i dont think ,but boy was this tasty! A little sweet for my taste, with the plum/raisen taste, but not overpowering. Quite a few women drinking this, due to its sweetness i presume.

On Tap at the brewpub: Served in a snifter- Browned crimson with a tan capping of medium height thats fluffy, thick, and firmly creamy. Good lacing in all sorts of goopy strings and spots. Pleasingly set aroma of rounded malt fruityness and crisp, dried, accents ont top. Nutty, bready, figgy, with some raisin, and nutmeg notes. Taste is well developed in a firm malt tone thats snappy with a bit of wheat and marbled rye breads. Again, has nice fruityness thats milding yet flavorful with figs, raisins and some nuts. Very nice draw through the middle and has swell finish of chewy leftover warming bready sweetness and that certain Trappist yeast sugary tone. Quite nice on the flavor palate. Soothing, creamy. mediumish body with a well-rounded malt tone throughout. Has a certain snap of crispness and freshness that rewarding in each sip. Makes a nice warm entrance and solidifies itself in darkly set bready sweetness well into the finish. A very solid and yummy beer. I’ll be back for more during this holiday season, as a growler will be enjoyed by all my family this coming x-mas.
