Bottle. Really solid for the style. Warm ruby amber in color, caramel sweetness, nice hoppy spice to balance, rich body, sweet finish. Excellent collabo.

Really solid scotch ale. In fact, this is what I think of when I am told "scotch-ale." Malty, sweet, rich, right on point for the style. Good collaboration.

Bottle from Stone Brewing store: Appeared as a dark mahogany amber hue with minimum layer of film for a head. Aroma is well balanced with lightly toasted caramel malts being the main attraction while a note of coffee lingers in the faint background. The taste is intensely sweet with a thick and heavy base of caramel malts that give off tastes of sugar, but there is a nice usage of hops and yeast that focuses all the energy on the malt of this Scotch ale. One of the best Scotch ales I’ve had, and considering how Scotch ales are my least favorite, this beer still holds its grounds.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 DiarmaidBHK (2278) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 3, 2013
Bottle from Russell’s Liquors. Pours brown with a small head that leaves no lacing. Lots of malt on the nose. Sweet on the tongue with a touch of peat. Finishes clean. Solid but I should have drunk it last year.

This was probably one of my least favorite Stone collaborations, I usually enjoy them. Dark brown color and not much head. Smells like a scotch ale at first, peaty and malty and then a blast of alcohol that I did not enjoy in the least. The flavor was malty and decent but nothing special at all. I’d take an Oskar Blues Old Chub over this beer every single time.

This beer has been aged since I bought it in February 2011 and opened October 2012. The beer was rather flat when poured with no head. Very light carbonation. Very malty with little to no hop character. Smooth and slight sweetness stands out. Ok overall.
