Bottle. Really solid for the style. Warm ruby amber in color, caramel sweetness, nice hoppy spice to balance, rich body, sweet finish. Excellent collabo.

A- Pours a deep mahogany with a thin, off white head. S- Caramel, fig, dark fruit, raisin. T- Lots of fig and raisin, grainy undertones, more of a bitter finish than i am used to with scotch ales but it rounds the sweetness out nicely. M- Thick with medium carbonation. D- I enjoyed this beer a lot. Usually i’m not a fan of scotch ales (although I can definitely appreciate them) but I think this was one of the better ones in recent memory.

Pours a deep red/brown with thin off-white head that rapidly dissipates. Aroma of mesquite, raisins, a sweet smelling Scotch. A burst of flavor up front, rich malts, slight sweet smokiness, and a bit of alcohol. No detectible hop presence, but finishes a tad dry. A pretty serious Scotch Ale.

3/20/2011: Green Flash / Pizza Port Carlsbad / Stone Highway 78 Scotch Ale... Aroma: Really nice caramelized maltiness with undertones of coffee, cacao nibs, and milk chocolate; just a touch smoky, too. Appearance: Burnished deep red-orange color with a large, frothy beige-colored head that quickly gathers from the generous carbonation; nearly opaque with nice, shiny highlihgts. Flavor: Sweet, syrupy maltiness infused with heavily caramelized goodness along with some roasted malts, molasses, tobacco, and chocolate nibs; rum-bourbony booze in the finish with just a splash of bitterness to round everything out and keep the sweetness in check. Palate: Medium-full body; smooth texture; slightly syrupy body; really nice mouthfeel with some heft to it. Overall: Delicious! This is an impressive Scotch Ale that definitely fits what I like and expect from a good one!

12 fl. oz. bottle (8.8% Alc/Vol) from Dutch’s in Cincinnati, Ohio. Rating #392 for this beer.

Forgot I even had this. 2011 collab bottle. Nutty and sweet with a bit of booze and a range of toasted caramel and toffee flavors. Very nice. Never had a chance to try it when it was younger, though.

Pours a cloudy brown amber with a small short lived beige head. Aroma and Taste of sweet dark caramel malt, raisins, a bit of dry dark fruit figs, plums with some yeast, brown sugar, mild bitterness and sweet alcohol esters. Palate is medium to full body, smooth and a sweet sticky mouth feel. Finishes with sweet caramel malt, raisins, dark fruit, plums, sweet sour flavor, yeast, ending is mildly bitter with a dry alcohol. Lingering notes of caramel and raisin sweetness. Overall I found this to be a very well made and tasty brew.
