bottle. Rich brown Scotch ale w/ minimal tan head. Great nose of boozy malts. Taste is malt driven, sweet, peat, and alcohol. Deep peaty nuances. A very good Scotch ale

12oz bottle -
Aroma and flavor had some oxidation and while sometimes I think oxidation can be nice in certain styles (including scotch ales), because this was an ale of what thought was on the "delicate" side, the oxidation didn’t help it. But, still a really nice beer.

September 8th, 2012 - Also on display at Green Flash’s fair weather festival was a collaborative scotch ale - strangely dark for the drinking environment, but a sticky, boozy addition nonetheless. It has all the smells and scents of a good scotch ale: dark malt, brown sugar, caramel, apple and pumpkin spice, and a heavy whiff of alcohol. And the flavor has it too, with a heavy emphasis on burnt caramel and cacao nibs, giving this brew a whole spectrum of sweet flavors that it can play on: dark fruits to chocolate and back again. At this point in my craft beer drinking career, this is a new and novel approach to the scotch ale, with a nicely balanced level of alcohol that satisfies the drinkers and keeps excessive sugars at bay.

A- Pours a deep mahogany with a thin, off white head.
S- Caramel, fig, dark fruit, raisin.
T- Lots of fig and raisin, grainy undertones, more of a bitter finish than i am used to with scotch ales but it rounds the sweetness out nicely.
M- Thick with medium carbonation.
D- I enjoyed this beer a lot. Usually i’m not a fan of scotch ales (although I can definitely appreciate them) but I think this was one of the better ones in recent memory.

Pours a deep red/brown with thin off-white head that rapidly dissipates. Aroma of mesquite, raisins, a sweet smelling Scotch. A burst of flavor up front, rich malts, slight sweet smokiness, and a bit of alcohol. No detectible hop presence, but finishes a tad dry. A pretty serious Scotch Ale.

3/20/2011: Green Flash / Pizza Port Carlsbad / Stone Highway 78 Scotch Ale... Aroma: Really nice caramelized maltiness with undertones of coffee, cacao nibs, and milk chocolate; just a touch smoky, too. Appearance: Burnished deep red-orange color with a large, frothy beige-colored head that quickly gathers from the generous carbonation; nearly opaque with nice, shiny highlihgts. Flavor: Sweet, syrupy maltiness infused with heavily caramelized goodness along with some roasted malts, molasses, tobacco, and chocolate nibs; rum-bourbony booze in the finish with just a splash of bitterness to round everything out and keep the sweetness in check. Palate: Medium-full body; smooth texture; slightly syrupy body; really nice mouthfeel with some heft to it. Overall: Delicious! This is an impressive Scotch Ale that definitely fits what I like and expect from a good one!
