3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 mikalooch (224) - , USA - MAR 31, 2011
12 oz bottle. Pours a deep mahogany color a fairly large head at first which dissipates rater quickly to leave very little head at all. Toasted almond, molasses, and roasty malt in the nose. Buttery notes throughout, toast and faint cinnamon flavors, complimented with caramel malt and candi sugar. Kind of sticky but watery at the same time, easy to drink with very little carbonation. Not bad, a touch bland considering the brewers who made this are usually huge.

Real good beer. Sadly the nose outdoes the flavor on this one. The nose has this deep, strong, rich, condensed malt aroma... almost like a malt jam. Just incredible, with a hint of bread and smoke. The flavor flattens out a bit, offering you simply nice caramel malts in a standard, but well-done scotch ale style. Nothing fantastic on that front to give it an 8 or a 9.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 micronaut129 (87) - chalfontborotowntonville, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 30, 2012
Pours a chestnut color some ruby high lights and is quite nearly opaque. A dencent foamy cap with good rentention. Aromas are pretty standard some roasted malts sweet toffee and a light scent of butter or diacetyl. Tastes good with toffee malts in the lead. Some hints of roasted malts and maybe a suggestion of smokiness. The end finishes with a molasses taste and warming alcohol. A medium bodied ale that has a smooth and soft feel. A good beer made nicely to style.

Pour on tap at Muddy Waters, hazy reddish pour with thin white head, aroma brought notes of peaty smoke, hints of caramel, toffee, hints of nuts, touch of nuts and earth, slight grass. Taste is a nice mix of caramel, smoke, hints of nuts, touch of toffee, slight sweet fruits, finishing fairly sweet but dries out fairly well. Nice!
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 QuezXLV (298) - New Jersey, USA - MAY 17, 2012
Cloudy brown body and thin bubbly head. Oak barrel in the aroma and a big floral. Tastes a little flat, but this could be due to cellaring this too long. Very malty flavor.

12 ounce bottle. Poured cloudy without head. Malty, leathery, raisins, fruity alcohol, toffee, caramel. A nice Scottish ale with just a touch of hot alcohol.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Glouglouburp (4783) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 9, 2012
In short: Scented soft candies with fruit juice in a bottle. Acceptable.
How: Bottle 12oz. Consumed 6 months after purchase, but almost one year after bottling if only one batch of this beer was made
The look: Cloudy burgundy body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose shows a foundation of sweet malts but also a surprisingly strong flowery/perfumy component. Taste has soft creamy toffee, soft aromatic candies (similar to jelly beans), fresh juicy fruits, soft liquorice candy. The fruitiness here was all over the place and I noted bananas (!!!), darker fruits and even kiwis. For a scotch ale the sweetness sensation was rather low. I think this is a well made beer, but it is just not my kind of beer. Named after a state highway that I assume connects these three California breweries, and thanks to the USA Interstate Highways it is now possible to travel all around the country without seeing anything.

Smells like olives. Pours nice dark - meaty looking. A little watery mouth feel. Oaky, scotch flavor....buttery.....maybe butter-scotch? A terrific, bold beer.
