Editor’s Note: The 6.5% abv European version is listed under St Feuillien

Our second collaboration with Brasserie St-Feuillien, Friendship Brew, is a Black Saison that blends European and American hops, Belgian yeast and a cache of secret spices. The aroma and flavors are enticing, with delicate fruitiness, subtle spice and rounded roast malt characteristics. Bottle conditioning provides lively carbonation and rich beer foam for a luscious body and a lean, dry finish.

Bottle. Pours black with a huge off white head. Aroma is incredibly unappealing to me. Herbal and peppery. Reminds me of cologne or toothpaste. Taste is similar, notes of cardamom, char and a little funk. Palate is average. Just seems disjointed. Incorporates a lot of elements I don't care for in the first place. Very surprised to dislike consecutive Green Flash brews. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A very black pour. Frothy brown head. Lots of roasted malt in the nose. A yeasty flavor with cardamom and a roasted, almost burnt finish. This was well done, but not what I was hoping for from Green Flash.

Bottle, 355 ml, at Ørsted Bar. Brownish black woth s frothy brown head. Blueberry accents sweet malty licorice sage mint basement cardamum. Slightly tart bitter finish. Medium body, delicious. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours black. Aroma of coriander, pepper and clove. Slight ginger and vanilla hint. Spices overpower the flavour to the point that it becomes unpleasant ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Deep mahoganny brown. Overflowing, frothy light brown head with lots of sticky brown lace.. Aroma is fruity herbal, full of spices, peppery - very interesting. Light body but full flavored, crisp and invigorating. Dry and bitter finish that wasnt bad, but not exactly overly enjoyable for me. Flavor much like the aroma - spice, herbal, some sweetness.

A black colored beer, with thick, foamy, big beige head. The aroma of some chcolate, a little perfum, malt and dark fruits. The taste of dark malts with dry bitter hop and a little chocolate. The aftertaste is a little sweet with bitter.

Very dark color, almost black, with generous brown creamy head. The aroma is herbal (sage and mint), then spicy (black pepper), finally a bit smelly (feety), and with light chocolate aroma. Light and dry mouthfeel; accent on the roasted/ashy malts (too much), with good and lean resiny hops, minty and peppery touch, with a hint of cinnamon; strong ashy bitterness, excessive.
A very confused beer, incoherent blend of everything.

36cl, at 5.7%Vol, as Green Flash Friendship Brew, new exclusive American collab. brew Anno 2012, from De Hopduvel Gent, complex brew, malty/roasted and slightly spicy/fruity, easy to drink, balanced, clear, rocky head, good brew, yet expensive

Sample at The Daily Growler. Black pour with a medium light beige head that dissipates steadily. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, yeast and fruit. Light-bodied with flavors of toasted malt, fruity yeast and a bit of spice. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

Aroma: pear, floral, dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate and black licorice. Palate: very smooth, morphs twice from start to finish. Flavor: pear, roast coffee, more pear, chocolate on the mid palate and grassy hop, chocolate and licorice. Comment: like a porter but with a twist: starts with stout richness, then quickly turns dry before broadening out into a smooth finish.
