3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle during the High Speed Tasting Pt. I on the train to the Black Country Bus Tour. Many thanks to Fergus! Pours clear, dark brown with a big, rich mocha froth. Nose is mildly funky with wintery spices, sweat and light menthol. Light sweet flavor with more minty menthol, some dry brett, dry and dark bread. Medium bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Dry finish with dry burnt wood, burnt toast, funky sweat, more menthol. Interesting.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
650 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with medium to full head. Interesting, the aromas and flavors differ from the same offering from St Feuillien in Europe Aromas of licorice, ginger, and citrus. Flavors are spices - predominately ginger and licorice plus a citrus sour and malt base. Is this a different brew than the European? - it certainly is not as good.

2.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Probably an unfair rating but I'm very unfamiliar with this kind of brew and must say that it confuses me. It smells like a mixture of stout, Jaegermeister, lambic, and mintuu black. The taste isn't far behind. For me it spreads I'm too many directions to get a high grade. Awful beer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled @ Drie Dorstige Herten, large sample. Dark color, medium brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, licorice, medium spicy. Mainly licorice in the aroma actually, but the balance with the spices is pretty good, even when I’m not a big licorice fan. Bit sweet in taste, quite dry, soft bitterness. All the separate elements didn’t make me expect a lot, but it turned out a wonderful brew with great balance. Lovely!

. Opaque black, dense long lasting beige head. Plastic belgian yeast aroma. Flavour is heavy liquorice, astingent roast, berry. Prickly carb. Grassy bitter hop. Disappointed with this one.

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Black as promised with a thin beige head.
Aroma was shocking at first because it smelled like a dove soap bar. Not sure what spice is making it smell that way. Very pungent barnyard, moldy smell to it, which clashes against the cleaning product spice smell.
Taste is the same as the aroma. Very mild bitterness and the spice is overwhelming. It is a Yin and Yang of indian paan and dank. Some licorice in the middle and especially at the end. Lingering bitterness in the end.
An interesting beer, but I can’t say I liked it much.
