The 2008 Surf’s Up Symposium IPA was brewed San Diego Style: highly quaffable, pale in color with a lighter body and profound emphasis on hop extravaganza.

A solid IPA. This style has been done so many times that its hard distinguish good from great for me. Aroma was pretty good. Grassy hops that are fairly strong. Pour was a nice medium gold with a three finger white head courtesy Mad Mex Robinson. Taste was good. Nice hop flavor with just a hint of malt to balance out the bitterness while lending no sweet flavor. Good carbonation.

Draft pour into a pint glass. Pours a translucent copper with a white head of foam that leaves nice rings of lacing as it dissipates. Aroma has notes of mango, pineapple, and straw. The taste is fruity and sweet with lots of tropical fruits coming through. The bitterness comes through the strongest in the finish. Lighter bodied.

On tap at the Olde Depot. It pours a clear golden color with a big creamy white head. The aroma is big juicy fruit and tropical with a little spice and dank. Nice hop bouquet. The flavor is heavier on the spice and pine with supporting tropical fruit and a little caramel malt. Strong bitter finish. Nice beer.

UPDATED: OCT 12, 2013 On tap at whole foods wexford. Yes IPA in nature but refreshingly fresh. Smell is sure enough fruity IPA hops. First taste is not as rude as anticipated. Unique flavor and the hop bitterness begins to build and coat the mouth as time progresses. Does have some decent co2 that overcomes the rude hops. Less of that soapy hop thing but it still gets there. Ends with a typical IPA finish.

On tap. Pours a clear orange with a thick white head. Aroma of citrus, light fruits, grassy hops. Flavor of hop oils, tropical fruits, citrus, caramel malt, and a fruity finish. A touch sweet and abrasive but overall pretty good. 7/4/7/4/14 (3.6/5)
